  4. Exchange Server Outlook No document space No spam control Expensive hardware and staff time to maintain Backup tapes and routines Local Control Google's Servers Gmail & GCal GDocs Gmail & Postini Outsourced headaches Google backs up (and Backupify backs up, too) Outsourcing control (updates, look and feel changes, etc.) Before/After

  5. Using Google Apps - Surprises • Twitter-like use of IM statuses  • No use at all of Sites product • Very little use of Docs • Constant, neverending, continual, ceaseless, perpetual training

  6. Using Google Apps at MRRL  • Administration • 2 administrators, share the burden (such as it is) • Average of 10 minutes a week

  7. Using Google Apps At MRRL • Groups • Very popular, very useful both inside and out • No limits on numbers of group emails • Kidsfun@mrrl.org; annex-group@mrrl.org

  8. Using Google Apps at MRRL • Spam • Not quite non-existent, very much reduced

  9. Using Google Apps At MRRL • Chat • *very* useful • reduces long distance phone bills - (library branch) • Marketplace • We use Aviary, Manymoon and SherpaTools • Services and software both are available • Postini • Useful for email retention and spam control, not a lot of administration required; just works!
