  1. Habakkuk (Habaq – embrace. One who embraces.) Habakkuk the Prophet (1:1; 3:1). Habakkuk was associated with the temple worship as the book is written ‘To the Chirf Musican. With my stringed instruments.’ (3:19) Written as Babylon rose in power over the Assyrians. Probably written during the reign of King Jehoiakim (609 –597 BC). 2 Kings 23:34 – 24:5; Jeremiah 22:17. Most likely date would therefore be just before the Babylonians invaded Judah in 605 BC. Date of Habakkuk c. 607 BC Theme: The just shall live by faith (2:4)

Judah will be invaded and taken into captivity by the Babylonians yet Habakkuk sees the eternal plan and purpose of God. Habakkuk will rejoice even in sorrow (3:17-18) The Lord is His strength (3:19)
