  2. Critique • An analysis and evaluation • 2 kinds- Oral and Written • Oral-Given out Loud • Written – More detailed look at the speech

  3. How to give a critique • Give positive feedback • When giving negative feedback, concentrate on only one or two criticisms • When making criticisms, mention what the speaker could do to improve • Be specific

  4. Develop a Written Critique • Think about the organization of the speech • Consider the content of the speech • Analyze the language the speaker used • Comment on the delivery the speaker used

  5. Giving Criticism • Choose an appropriate time and place • Choose only one or two specific points • Describe the person’s behavior carefully and accurately. • Respond to the present, not to the past. • Try to include ideas for solutions

  6. Accepting Criticism • Think of criticism of an opportunity for improvement • Make sure that you understand what you hear • Recognize those who use constructive criticism
