  3. History of CERT Born from LAFD CERT Program Nationalized after September 2001 Part of Citizen Corps Active in Flower Mound since 2004 CERT Orientation

FM CERT Mission CERT Orientation Provide assistance to the Flower Mound Fire Department and to the Citizens of Flower Mound in the event of a large scale disaster or large scale man-made event that would otherwise tie up significant fire and rescue resources. Our team is also available to assist local law enforcement during missing person searches.

  5. Scope of Training • 24 hours of Classroom Covering • Light Search and Rescue • Fire Suppression • Disaster Medical Operations • Structure and ICS • Disaster Psychology • Terrorism • Disaster Exercise • Ongoing Training CERT Orientation

  6. CERTs are trained never to… • Activate themselves • Put themselves or others in danger • Stray from the scope of their training • Take any enforcement actions CERT Orientation

  7. CERTs are trained to always… Operate in teams Operate in the incident command structure Adhere to the protocols they are taught Improvise when needed CERT Orientation

  8. FM CERT Capabilities 5 teams Almost 200 citizen’s trained to date 11 call outs Can work independently if necessary Can augment other CERT teams Some members trained in Wide Area Search and Rescue Can readily assist fire fighters in MASCAL CERT Orientation
