  2. Total Internal Reflection Total internal reflection occurs when the angle of incidence is greater than the critical angle. Light is travelling from less dense substance (glass) to less dense substance (air)

  4. Optical Fibres Light enters each fibre at a large angle of incidence….greater than the critical angle. Light is then totally internally reflected, until it leaves the end. Optical fibres are used in hospitals, in endoscopes. There are used in communications, for transmitting information They are also used in lighting, such as Christmas displays

  5. Optical Fibres in Christmas Trees Optical fibres in a Christmas Tree. The fibres are thin, so that light can only enter at a large angle of incidence. Lght is totally internally reflected along each fibre There is a rotating coloured disc in the base The disc contains filters of different colours As the disc rotates different colours are sent along the optical fibres.
