  1. Welcome Parents! Mrs. Amy Reece – 2nd Grade

  2. All About Me • My husband • Brad Reece (also a 2nd grade teacher at Valley View) • My children • Lucas Reece was born in May and is now almost 3 months old. • Our pets • We have one dog named Lulu who is a blue-eyed husky mix.

  4. Arrival at School • Please do not drop students off before 7:00 a.m. • 7:00 am Main building is open/Supervision is provided . • 7:30 am Breakfast line closes • 7:45 am School begins • 7:50 am Students are marked tardy • 2:45 pm Dismissal 3:00 pm All students must be picked up by 3:00 • Traffic Flow: In the mornings all students must be dropped off for school at the north end of the building under the awning. There will be a teacher or a member of our Blue Springs Safety Patrol on duty to assist students to the cafeteria. • Afternoon pickup will be held in the lower drive. Please drive through the line to pickup students. Utilize the ball park wrap around to wait for your turn to move forward. Thank you for your consideration in this.

  5. Afternoon Pick-up • Please make your child’s afternoon pick-up routine as consistent as possible. • If your child is being picked up in a different way, you must send a note. • Please DO NOT instruct your child to “Tell Me” or have an older sibling “Tell Me” their pick-up is different than normal.

  6. Take Home Folders • The yellow Parents Communicator folder NEEDS to come to school with them every day. • “KEEP AT HOME” - Any items placed on this side of the folder need to be taken out and kept at home. Things like daily work, graded papers, and school information sheets will be placed on this side. • “RETURN TO SCHOOL” - Any items on this side are things that need to be completed and returned to school. Things like homework, school forms, and permission slips will be placed on this side. • Each Friday your child’s spelling words for the next week will come home in this folder. • PLEASE, check your child’s folder every night!

  7. Sending Money To School • Money should always be placed in an envelope with the child’s first and last name on it. • Please write what the money is for and the amount enclosed.

  8. Communicating with the School • My main method of communication is through your child’s “Take Home Folder”. • Please make sure you check your child’s folder daily. • On occasions, I may need to call you during the school day.   10. Parent Conferences • Parent Conferences are held in October. If you would like to set up a conference for another time during the year, please feel free to let me know.

  12. Electronics • Please do not allow students to bring electronic devices to school.

  13. Spelling Words • Friday: I will call out the words one at a time and the students will write them down on paper. • (Dictation sentences) Sentences will be read and the students will write them down on paper. Dictation sentences will be sent home on Friday. In the fall, we will send home 3 sentences to study. However, they will only be tested on 2 of the sentences. In the spring, we will send home 5 sentences to study. However, they will only be tested on 3 of the sentences. • We encourage your child to study for the tests. Please see that he/she does NOT wait until the night before the test to study.

  14. Accelerated Reading • AR is a MUST! • Reading develops fluency • Reading increases vocabulary more than talking or direct teaching. • Reading substantially boots general knowledge • Reading helps with memory and reasoning skills

  15. School Supplies • *Please write your child’s name on all supplies* • The following supplies are needed: • 1. $30.00 school fees • 2. Two dozen #2 pencils (pre-sharpened if possible) • 3. Zipped pencil pouch (instead of pencil box) • 4. Two boxes of crayons (No more than 16 or 24) • 5. Regular rule loose leaf notebook paper (please no college rule) • 6. Second Grade tablet paper (Please purchase at school for $1.75) • 7. Scissors and Elmer’s Glue • 8. One plastic folder with three metal prongs • 9. One plastic folder with pockets • 10. One large box of Kleenex • 11. 70 Sheet spiral notebook • 12. Clorox wipes • 13. NO TRAPPER KEEPERS PLEASE! • 14. NO BACKPACKS WITH WHEELS!

  16. School Celebrations • Birthdays: Students may bring snacks to school on their birthday. • Behavior Reward Party: We will celebrate “Great Behavior” on the last Friday of the six weeks grading period. Students may bring snacks and rated “G” movies. The class will vote on which movie they want to watch. • Holidays: We will have both a Christmas and Valentine’s Day party this year.
