  1. Seventh Grade Science 12 week Curriculum Map

  2. Rational of 12 week rotation Provides teacher with ability to extend knowledge in one area of science becoming an expert. Provides students with the ability to work with all three science teachers expanding their use of learning modalities. Increases teacher collaboration in regards to lesson design, student needs, grading policies, etc… For example, every three weeks, each science teacher will collect 100 points of work from students through a variety of summative assessments.

  3. Objectives of the 12 week rotation All three science teachers will: • Provide a range in cognitive levels as well as differing depth of knowledge in strand lessons. • Integrate the content knowledge with science methods, processes, and skills. • Incorporate inquiry and technological design as the basis of strand lessons. • Instruct strand learning expectations through application methods (e.g. labs)

  4. Topic- Matter Cycles and Flow of Energy Content Statements and Descriptions Matter is transferred from one organism to another repeatedly and between organisms and their physical environment. Energy transfers from one form to another in organisms. Earth contains a wide diversity of physical conditions, which creates a wide variety of environments. Organisms with similar needs compete for resources in those environments. Interactions between organisms may be for nourishment, reproduction, or protection and may benefit one of organisms or both of them. Life Science Strand

  5. Topic- Cycles and Patterns of Earth and the Moon Content Statements and Descriptions The hydrologic cycle illustrates the changing states of water as it moves through the lithosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere. Thermal energy transfers in the ocean and the atmosphere contribute to the formation of currents with influence global climate patterns. The atmosphere has different properties at different elevations and contains a mixture of gases that cycle through the lithosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere. The relative patterns of motion and positions of Earth, moon, and sun cause solar and lunar eclipses, tides, and phases of the moon. Earth and Space Science Strand

  6. Topic- Energy Transformations Content Statements and Descriptions Energy exists in different forms. Energy cannot be created or destroyed, but only changed from one form into another. Renewable and nonrenewable energy resources can be converted into electrical and other usable forms of energy. Thermal energy is random, disordered, motion of atoms and molecules within a substance. Physical Science Strand

  7. Teaching Assignments • Mrs. D’Amore- Earth and Space Science Strand • Mr. Kidd- Life Science Strand • Mrs. Weimer- Physical Science Strand
