Advanced Planning • STAR was very involved during the early GOES-R development. This includes: formulation studies, ABI band selection and modification, Technical Requirement Documents, Performance and Operational Requirements Document, etc. ABI documents from 1999 when ABI was only 8 spectral bands, now it is 16. Successful 6th GOES Users' Conference held 3-5 November 2009 Monona Terrace Convention Center Madison, Wisconsin • The 6th Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) Users' Conference (GUC) was held in Madison, Wisconsin, November 3-5, 2009. All the conference objectives were achieved. • The conference focus was the current, near-term, and future geostationary systems. There were over 260 participants from government, private industry, academia, and the international community, including representatives from EUropean organization for the exploitation of METeorological SATellites (EUMETSAT), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), China, Japan, Korea, India, Brazil, and Canada. The conference consisted of oral presentations, poster sessions, panel discussions, and a town hall meeting. • STAR supported the 6th GUC in many ways.
Future Activities • STAR is will be involved in future GOES-R series activities, including, continue current activities, capitalization plan(s), advanced geo soundings (possible commercial data-buy option), Day 2 products, calibration, validation, conferences, publications, outreach, training, etc. (under construction)
