  2. Review your First Marking Period Grades Scheduling - January PSAT results – mid December Junior/Parent Night – February 3rd SAT and SAT subject tests – Spring (NHHS offers the May & June test for both) ACT testing – not offered at NHHS Look for Local College Fairs Upcoming Events

  3. Monthly Guidance Newsletter Guidance Web Page Visiting the Gifted and Talented Web Page Talk to your counselor Using College Search Programs – Naviance Attend evening programs provided by the guidance office for parents and students Staying Informed

  4. Visit HomeLogic website regularly for the following: • Class grades – each assignment • Report appears under grades • Transcript (no G.P.A included) • Attendance • Obligations (listed as “FEES”) • Homework, if applicable • Current Schedule

  5. 4 years of English (20 credits) • Advanced Academic Literacy - AAL (2.5 credits) • 3 years of Math, including Algebra I – (15 credits) • 3 years of Social Studies (15 credits) – US History I, World History, US History II • 3 years of Science (15 credits) – Physics, Chemistry, Biology • 2 years of the same World Language • Total Arts (10 credits combined) – Practical Arts (5 credits) Fine/Performing Arts (5 credits) • 1 year of Phys. Ed. and Health for every year enrolled in a NJ school • Passing HSPA – March 2012 • Math (1 day)- Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II • Language Arts (2 days) – Reading/Writing/multiple-choice/open-ended/editing & revising text • Must have a minimum of 120 credits to graduate, including all graduating requirements MINIMUM Graduation Requirements

I and Div. II Sports (www.ncaaclearinghouse.net) Junior Packet due in April/May 2012 to your counselor THE COLLEGE ADMISSION PROCESS

Sat vs. ACT SAT • 3 hours, 45 minutes • 10 sections • Critical Reading, 3 Math, 3 Writing (including essay), 1 Experimental (not scored) • Reading passages with questions pertaining to comprehension and sentence completion • Arithmetic, geometry, algebra, algebra II • Essay is required • 1/3 math, 1/3 reading, 1/3 writing • Penalties (typically ¼ point deducted) for wrong answer ACT • 3 hours, 25 minutes (includes optional 30 minute writing test) • 4 sections • English, Math, Reading, Science, and optional writing test • Reading: 4 passages, 10 questions per passage • Science (analysis, knowledge, and problem solving) • Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry • Essay is optional (final section) • ¼ English, ¼ math, ¼ reading, ¼ science • No penalties for wrong answers

  9. Study and get good grades – your transcript will carry significant weight in the college process. Do your research now and visit colleges – use the Naviance program Explore career options – inventories on Naviance. Attend College Fairs – check out the posters outside of the guidance office Talk to your counselor Don’t wait till next year! What to do right now?
