  2. Natural Climate Change • There are four major types of natural climate change 1. Volcanic Eruptions • Mount Pinatubo → Reduced solar radiation by 10% • Krakatau →Temperature fell 1.2 °C (2.2 °F) and took ~5 years to go back to normal 2. Ocean Circulation • El Nino → Unusually warm temperatures in the Pacific • Wetter conditions for the southeast • La Nina → Unusually cold temperatures in the Pacific • Dryer conditions for the southeast

  3. 3. Solar Activity • Changes in the sun’s output (sun spots) → Maunder’s Minimum and the Little Ice Age 4. Earth’s Motions • Plate tectonics → The Permian Mass Extinction- climate change due to the creation of Pangaea • Milankovitchcyles→ changes in the climate due to variations in Earth’s orbit, nutation, and precession

  4. Unnatural climate change • The burning of fossil fuels has caused an increase in carbon, which is changing global climate • Scientist predict temperature will increase by 1.4° C– 5.8° C • The changes will impact the world; however, third world countries will be the most impacted • These changes have caused differences in weather patterns which include increases in temperature and storms as well as changes in precipitation rates
