  3. SWAT participate in a Socratic Seminar which causes scholars to discuss and debate Achebe’s purpose in writing “Images of Africa”. Objectives

  4. Norms of Socratic Seminar Scholars need to have an understanding of the text. Do not need to raise your hand. Actively listen (what does this look like?) Use the text as evidence for your answers. Question one another!

  5. Spend the next 10 minutes reviewing the questions on your handout. Jot downs ideas to contribute to the discussion. Prepare textual evidence to support your ideas.

  12. Appositive: a description that describes the noun right beside it. (non-essential) Jimmy’s brother, whose name is also Jimmy, likes to skateboard. Coordinating Conjunction: joining two independent clauses using a conjunction. Daniella left her house without saying goodbye to her parents, for she was upset with them. Subordinating Conjunction: joining an independent and dependent cause using a comma. Because my flight is leaving at 8:50am, I need to leave my house at 6am. Adjective combining:joining two adjectives to describe a subect. The big, green balloon flew away. Answers
