This educational activity integrates addition and division through fun animal-themed problems involving food. Students will start by solving an addition problem and then transition to division based on that problem. For example, after determining that 3 + 6 = 9 bananas can be shared, they'll figure out how many bananas each monkey receives by dividing. Groups of two will then create their own problems for peers to solve, fostering collaborative learning. This engaging approach makes math relatable and enjoyable for all students.

Explanation First you will be presented with an addition problem. After completing the problem you will be asked to consider the addition problem when beginning to divide the objects.
Considering the previous problem, how many bananas will each monkey get? 6 / 3 = 2
Considering the previous problem, how many bones does each dog get? 12 / 4 = 3
Wrap Up Get into groups of two. Each partner must put together an addition and division problem similar to those previously shown. You do not have to use animals. Have your partner work out the problem that you crated. When everyone is finished we will share our answers and reasoning.
