World Issue • Fear can make people act against their better judgment. If we are aware of this we can prevent bad people like Kony from exploiting other people’s fear.
Nonfiction Article • “Uganda: The Horror” by Paul Raffaele. • In “Uganda: The Horror” the author, Paul Raffaele informs the reader about how terrible Kony is by showing the cause and effect of Kony’s rebellion. • Some of the children he captures are forced to murder their parents. • More than 90% of the Ugandan population was forced to relocate by Kony. • He tortures and kills any children who try to escape. • He forces the children to be soldiers or slaves. • Most of the children he abducts are under 13.
Fiction Connection • They both involve fear and it’s ability to control people. They are both driven to change their lives by fear

Now What? • Fear forces people to do terrible things and gives terrible people a means of controlling good people. In Uganda, Kony uses fear to control children and turn them into his soldiers and slaves. More than 20,000 children have been taken away from their homes and their lives. Some of the children are forced to beat their own parents to death under the cover of night. Any children caught trying to escape can be tortured or even executed. The claws of fear are being used by one man to create an army of children.
