  6. Money, Money, Money Money- builds foundation for economics study and development of mini society Purchase Stamp Monthly Auction Start Up Money for business Students learn the value of money and the importance of earning and being responsible.

  7. Discipline Money system for positive reinforcement of classroom and school rules and expectations. Purchase stamps, auction items, builds foundation for mini society. School wide incentives, dragon days, etc… 1ST – VERBAL WARNING 2ND– PARENT CONTACT 3RD– PARENT CONTACT/TIME OUT IN ROOM 4TH – PARENT CONTACT/TIME OUT IN BUDDY ROOM 4TH –PARENT CONTACT/DETENTION 5TH – CONTACT COUNSELOR/PARENT CONFERENCE (WITH PREVIOUS DOCUMENTATION) 6TH – OFFICE REFERRAL Ultimately, we want students to realize there are both positive and negative consequences for their decisions.

  8. You thought you were sending your child to school, but last week we felt like doctors. Writing the prescription for your child… • Writing-Administered a formal DSTP 3rd grade writing prompt. Score is based on Delaware Writing rubric. Anchors are used to help guide coring. A score of 3 is considered standard. This is a class goal to improve writing. • DIBELS- measures how fluently your child reads. Children are given a passage and are given one minute to read. Words correct per minute is your child’s score. The goal is to be over 100 words per minute. If your child scored below 65 wpm, we have identified that they need immediate attention and help with reading. • Placement Test- How well did your child do on a test intended for beginning year fourth graders. Below 79% in total score identifies an area of weakness in your child’s ability to comprehend

FLUENCY • Repeated Reading • Practice reading the same passage over and over • Practice reading to parents or siblings • Paired Reading • Child and parent read book aloud together • Parent’s reading slightly leads or follows, depending on child’s need and desire • Choral Reading • Parent and child read text together • Child selects book and assigns parts with parent • Fluency is the ability to read with appropriate rate, accuracy, phrasing, • expression, and comprehension. • Students who are fluent readers are better • able to devote their attention to comprehending text. Please include fluency practice as part of your child’s nightly homework. The passage will be sent home on Monday. Each evening have your child do a one minute timed reading. Then record the number of words per minute they read on the included graph. They should read the passage Monday through Thursday and it should be sent back on Friday with your signature. Together we can help your child be a better reader.

Grading Grading is accomplished in multiple ways. • Traditional average for recording grades: A(100 – 93), B(92 – 85), C(84 – 75), D(74 – 70), F(69 and below) • Point system for some LAB pages, DAB pages, and Science and Social Studies folders. (EX. 19/20 or 7/10) • Rubrics for writing, projects and labs. • Check system for other student work.

  14. Homework Monday - Thursday 40 minutes per night Read 15 – 20 minutes a night. Write a note if it seems to be taking to long or your child is having difficulty. Child is responsible for bringing materials home and back to school the next day. (A forgotten assignment is an incomplete assignment.)

Expect it to be a little different than the way you did it! Working together to create a well rounded child!! Book projects, research projects, colonial day, invention, mini-society, mentor project village, cd making, Delaware Day, Meaningful Economics, Geo Pact, etc…

FIELD TRIPS NYC is still a possibility “A Little Mermaid “or “Beauty and the Beast” -possible parent to lead fundraising to offset costs -Money will need to be collected by November to secure seats. Once I book tickets I have a 15 day window to purchase tickets. -Odessa- living 18th century style -Ingram’s Pond

  17. SDSA 5K RUN for the ArtsOrganized and Run by the 4th Grade! • 1 or 2 parents to oversee the run • All parents to help get sponsors!!!! • Thank you ahead of time for making this a success!!! WANTED

  18. START COLLECTING BASKET ITEMS NOW!!! • Start collecting items and gift certificates now so that it is not such a rush with the run too.   19. THANK YOU FOR COMING!!!! The hardest part of raising a child is teaching them to ride bicycles.  A shaky child on a bicycle for the first time needs both support and freedom.  The realization that this is what the child will always need can hit hard.  ~Sloan Wilson Fourth grade is like riding the bicycle. Your children will need to become independent learners and they still need the support of all of us to make them be able to eventually yell: “No Handlebars!!”
