  1. Obedience By: Maria Andrade Period: 7 Mrs. McElmoyl

  2. What is obedience? • Obedience- behavior in response to orders given by respected authority. • Obedience is more likely to occur when the authority figure giving the order is present. • Obedience is a form of social influence where an individual acts in response to a direct order from another individual (who is usually an authority figure). • Obedience occurs when you are told to do something

  3. Who are you most like to obey • People are most likely to obey their parents, teachers, doctor, and people who they have respect for. • They are also most like to obey who they think has the authority figure for instance a police is an authority figure.

  4. Study on obedience • The Milgram experiment on obedience found that social conditioning for going along with legitimate authority figures is so strongly ingrained that people often lack the ability to do otherwise. • The experiment pointed out to findings that were surprising. The first finding concerns the sheer strength of obedient tendencies manifested in this situation. • Subjects have learned from childhood that it is a fundamental breach of moral conduct to hurt another person against his will. Yet, 26 subjects abandon this tenet in following the instructions of an authority who has no special powers to enforce his commands. • The second finding was the extraordinary tension generated by the procedures. One might suppose that a subject would simply break off or continue as his conscience dictated. Yet, this is very far from what happened. There were striking reactions of tension and emotional strain.

  5. Under what circumstances would we stop obeying? • In my opinion the right time to stop obeying is when they tell you to do something that is against your belief. • Also when they aren't respecting your lifestyle • Another time to stop obeying is when they start harassing or hitting you.

  6. My Opinion On Obedience • In my opinion it is very important to obey your elderlies your parents and your family members. It is also good to obey doctors, teachers etc. But DO NOT obey just any person because you don’t know how other people feel about obeying. • My opinion on obedience is that most people just obey who they think is right and who they think will help them be successful in life. • The moment when I would stop obeying would be when it gets to threatening.
