  1. What I Owe My Congregation

  2. Christians are called to service. • Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. • Luke 9:23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. Matthew 4:10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”

  3. Christians are members of the Lord’s church. • Acts 2:41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. • Acts 2:47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. • Ephesians 5:23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.

  4. Christians are members of the Lord’s church. • Isaiah 1:18 “ Come now, and let us reason together,”       Says the LORD,       “ Though your sins are like scarlet,       They shall be as white as snow;       Though they are red like crimson,       They shall be as wool. • Revelation 7:14 And I said to him, “Sir, you know.” So he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

  5. Christians are members of the Lord’s church. • Ephesians 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, • Ephesians 3:8-10

  6. Christians should be members of the local congregation. • Acts 9:26 And when Saul had come to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples; but they were all afraid of him, and did not believe that he was a disciple. • Kollao (Strong’s G2853) – 1) to glue, to glue together, cement, fasten together 2) to join or fasten firmly together 3) to join one's self to, cleave to

  7. Christians should be members of the local congregation. • Jerusalem • Rome • Corinth • Philippi • Ephesus • Colosse • Thessalonica • Smyrna • Pergamos • Laodicea • Philadelphia

  8. We have responsibilities to each other. • 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. • Ephesians 4:16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

  9. Our Responsibilities To Each Other: • Our good example

  10. We must set a good example. • This congregation’s example in the community should be exemplary. • Matthew 5:13-16 • 1 Peter 2:11-12 • Avoid those things explicitly mentioned as sinful and those things that are questionable. • 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, 1 Thessalonians 5:22

  11. Our Responsibilities To Each Other: • Our good example • Our time, energy and talents.

  12. We must do what we are able. • Elders are not supposed to do it all. • Ephesians 4:11-12 • Hebrews 13:17 Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you. • Matthew 25:14-30

  13. Our Responsibilities To Each Other: • Our good example • Our time, energy and talents. • Our faithful attendance.

  14. We must attend faithfully. • Psalm 122:1 I was glad when they said to me,         “Let us go into the house of the LORD.” • Hebrews 10:25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. • Matthew 10:37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

  15. Our Responsibilities To Each Other: • Our good example • Our time, energy and talents. • Our faithful attendance. • Our zeal for converting souls.

  16. We must zealously spread the gospel. • Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,       And he who wins souls is wise. • Romans 10:1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved.

  17. Our Responsibilities To Each Other: • Our good example • Our time, energy and talents. • Our faithful attendance. • Our zeal for converting souls. • Our love.

  18. We must love one another. • John 13:35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. • Philippians 2:1-4 • Galatians 5:13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
