  5. Resolving Conflicts • Identify the problem • People involved must • Work as a team • Honor the relationship • Communicate effectively (be assertive) • Decide on a solution • Carry out the solution

  6. In Communicating.., • Avoid passive responses • Avoid aggressive responses • Strive for assertive responses • Examples of passive – saying nothing, keeping secrets, ignoring, making excuses to avoid • Examples of aggressive – yelling, name calling, sarcastic, physical

  7. Assertive Responses • Express your needs in a way that doesn’t threaten others • State the facts (not opinions) • Keeps emotions under control • Avoid “you “ statements • Talk about the behavior, not the person
