  3. Period of Emergence (1920-1945) • Produced rich collection of writings that dealt with various themes of love and romance, social problems, nationalism, and those focusing on Filipino soul.

  5. The Japanese Occupation (1941-1945) • Japanese conquerors admonished the use of English Language. • This gave way to the flowering of the Tagalog language in the Philippine literature.
