  2. Who are we? Clare Ann Sturgess Background= Specialist Health Promotion Service. Has had five years experience in working with young adults. Specialising in lifestyle and Health Has experience of new deal programme. Has a concern for her community. Has qualifications in business, health & social care and training. I started YASS because I wanted to use my experience and training to help meet the need for support within the community. Sarah Hurst Background= Administration Has experience of the new deal programme Has qualification in business administration Wants to help other lone parents Has experience of local services within the community. I am aiming to develop my local knowledge and training so I can help others.

  3. How Delivering training courses. Delivering seminars on a weekly basis Word of mouth Road shows Publicity Networking By-monthly mailing to local services Signposting and the establishing of referral protocol By building an information database for young adults Support visits to any appointments that a young adult may have. The YASS website – www.yassinbrid.org.uk.

  4. Why? • There is a need for some type of support programme available for 18 to 30 year olds. Support has already been identified up to the age of 19 years old. • YASS was established so that support needed by anyone over the age of 19, was able to be met. Areas and issues already identified by the YASS staff and issues brought up by young adults: • Housing • Benefits • Bereavement • Addiction • Child care support • Lack of self confidence • Lack of support • Unemployment and other individual issues.

  5. Where has the funding come from? Funding has been applied for from the start of the project in July 2004.the following are the sources of which we have received money. • Scarman Trust • Community champions • New Deal / Job centre plus • Thriving Bridlington • East Riding of Yorkshire Council • Princes Trust • Sir James Reckitt trust • Co-op • Social Enterprise • Private donation

What have we done so far? • Rented an office in town centre for the project to be based. • Created contact with local training providers. • Created working relationships with local agencies. • Created two jobs roles: Project worker and Administrator. • Created one work placement. • Delivered 90 life skills seminars. • Offered 75 support appointments all with successful outcomes. • Held three community events. • Completed computer, coaching, communication, first aid, health and safety and development training.

  7. What we hope to do. • To become a Ltd company in 2006. • To establish a mentoring scheme for young adults between 21 and 30. • To establish a 3 day course and a 5 day course for young adults. • To continue the work and work roles of the project. • To secure funding for two years. • To create a further two work placements. • To expand the support offered into rural areas.

  8. Our Vision To make help available. Get the facts from young adults. Get real with people. To raise hope, vision and confidence in young adults. To help people make their own differences in their own lives. To make a difference in our community.
