Annotating Text. Annotation – A note added to a text, book, drawing, etc., as a comment or explanation. Annotation is NOT highlighting!. But why do annotation at all???. It helps you slow down when you read and deepen your understanding of the reading. Symbols we will be discussing today.

  5. Symbols we will be discussing today L = New Learning Something new you learned ? Or Q = Questions Something you have a question about. ?? = Confusion Something you are confused about  = Something you already know

  6. Let’s try some annotation!!!

  7. Keep in mind, you can always add to the list if something works for you Some people Underline major points Example: Jason found a book with no writing in it Some people circle words or phrases they want to go back to later Example: Beware the Jabberwock, my son!       The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Once you have the basics down, you can make annotation your own!
