  16. I think human cloning is a terrible idea, I believe it is wrong and that it would cause a lot of problems. First of all, clones would cause family confusion. If you were cloned, how would your clone fit into your family? Remember, your clone would be exactly like you. Secondly, there are many human rights issues. It wouldn’t be right for clones to work while everyone else rested and it would be very wrong to use clones’ bodies to save other peoples’ lives. Clones are people! Thirdly, cloning would cause massive problems for society. If everyone decided to be cloned there would be a population explosion. And imagine if criminals or gangs cloned themselves? Governments should prevent human cloning from ever happening before we destroy ourselves. 师大版7

  17. 外研6Frankenstein is a young scientist from Geneva. While studying at university, he discovers the secret of how to give life to lifeless matter. Using bones from dead bodies, he creates a creature that resembles a human being and gives it life. The creature, which is unusually large and strong, is extremely ugly, and terrifies all those who see it. However, the monster, who has learnt to speak is intelligent and has human emotions. Lonely and unhappy, he begins to hate his creator. When Frankenstein refuses to create a wife for him, the monster murders Frankenstein’s brother and finally Frankenstein’s wife. The scientist chases the creature to the Arctic in order to destroy him, but he dies there. At the end of the story, the monster disappears into the ice and snow to end his own life.

  18. I would like to suggest that medical cloning should be not as simple an issue as my colleague claims. First of all, where do these stem cells come from? Well, from human cells of course. If you believe that human life comes into existence as soon as the cells start to grow, then the practice of removing human stem cells from an embryo kills it. This embryo, if it was allowed to continue to grow and develop, would eventually become another human being . So by using stem cells to save one person, we are actually killing another. Is this ethically justified? We feel that the answer must be “no”. At the moment medical cloning research is a very new science. It has been most successful in cloning some animals – but not all. The scientists are also worried about the efficiency of the system.人教8

  20. What is eco-fashion? Eco-fashion is a complex phenomenon and the common use of the term covers two aspects of fashion — ‘ecological’ and ‘ethical’ (伦理的). Ecological fashion usually refers to textile and clothing production processes and the environmental issues surrounding them; ethical fashion generally relates to the working conditions involved in the producing processes.

  21. What are the problems with fashion? Firstly, the production of textiles pollutes the environment heavily. Cotton-planting uses pesticides; sheep-farming and wool-cleaning contribute to global warming; synthetics-making (人造纤维生产) brings about harmful waste. Secondly, every stage of clothing production has a significant effect on the environment. They all use a great deal of energy, and some also involve harmful chemicals.

  22. In addition to this, there is a lot of waste produced in the process, especially in the form of polluted water. Thirdly, growing consumption levels and our shopping habits further worsen the bad effects. We are now buying clothes in increasing quantities without realizing the scale on which it affects natural environment, and we are also quick to throw away clothes that have been worn only a couple of times.

  23. Then, how to solve the problems? To a large degree, it is the fashion producers that really have the power and the responsibility to shape our future. There are numerous ways in which these producers can reduce their ecological footprint, from switching to green energy and reducing energy use, through selecting sustainable (可持续使用的) materials and choosing local suppliers, to recycle and minimize waste.

  24. On the other hand, as consumers we can all make contributions by selecting environmentally friendly clothing and reducing clothing consumption. Now many people are beginning to shop for organic food products because the benefits of eating food free of chemicals are straightforward and immediate. They relate directly to our personal health. In fact, choosing eco-fashion can also contribute to our personal health, though it is mostly done by way of keeping the health of the planet.

  25. 1. The eco-fashion means making clothes that take into account_________. A. the environment issues B. the health of consumers C. the working conditions of people in the fashion industry. D. all the above 2. The underlined phrase in Paragraph 3 means________. A. switching to green energy and reducing energy use B. reducing their clothing product C. making less bad effects on the environment when producing clothes D. providing food products free of chemicals.

  26. 3. According to passage, eco-fashion ______. A. is about two aspects of fashion — ‘ecological’ and ‘ethical’. B. is getting more and more attention in modern society. C. contributes to our personal health. D. is a fashion accepted by many people. 4. What is the purpose of the author to write this passage? A. To introduce the eco- fashion to us. B. To tell us how to follow the eco-fashion. C. To call on us to choose eco-fashion. D. To get us to pay more attention to environmental issues.
