This report summarizes the progress of our regional studies investigating the impact of climate changes on agriculture. It details the study regions, including specific sub-regions by country, the objectives of our analysis, and the characteristics of the farming systems analyzed. Additionally, it covers the development of adaptation scenarios, outcomes, and indicators related to climate impact assessments and the performance of various farming systems through TOA-MD modeling. Plans for completing the project and disseminating findings are also outlined.

1. Project Title Name of Investigator(s)& Institutions
2. Regions IA Progress Update Prepare a table following the format below, summarizing the progress in your regional studies. Identify each Study Region by Country/Region Name (e.g., Senegal/Nioro) Enter name of each Sub-Region Complete this information Add more activities if necessary
3. Study Region Information For each Sub Region: • Describe analysis and objectives • Describe Population & Strata (Identify Population and Strata: include descriptive name for each stratum, e.g., large farms, small farms; or name of place if geographic strata, e.g., Machakos district, Vihiga district)
3. Study Region Information (cont.) c. Characterizing System 1 • Describe the farming system (Sub-systems and Activities) • Construct a box-and-arrow diagram of your system 1 and how it relates to system 2 (e.g., see example, you can do by hand and scan or draw in ppt)
3. Study Region Information (cont.) • Characterizing System 2 • RAPs and Scenarios: • RAPs design: • Describe process used (e.g., meeting with project team, outside participants, etc.) • RAPs Narratives – (Submit DevRAP matrix file to the TOA-TEAM) • Adaptation scenarios and narratives • Descriptive name for each scenarios • Narrative for each scenario
e. Outcomes and Indicators 3. Study Region Information (cont.) • Describe the outcomes and indicators for the Fast Track climate impact assessment. • In most cases, this will be • changes in the yield distribution of the crop(s) included in the analysis • Percent of gainers/losers for each stratum, and aggregated across strata • Gains and losses in net returns for each stratum, and aggregated across strata
3. Study Region Information (cont.) • f. Parameterization of Systems 1 and 2 : • Provide a table that summarizes the TOA-MD model parameters used, by strata (define units for each variable that is not a CV or correlation): • Area, HH size, Farm size parameters (mean, CV) • Subsystems components: • Mean, s.d. of yields • Standard deviation of net returns • Prices and mean cost of production • Fixed costs (if any) • Correlation between systems
3. Study Region Information (cont.) • g. TOA-MD Results • Provide a table that summarizes the TOA-MD results, aggregated and by strata, for the gains and losses (in value and in %), and for the percent of gainers and losers. • Provide an interpretation of these findings in relation to the changes in climate and crop yields that were inputs into the analysis • Present the gain/loss diagram, aggregated and by strata
4. Plans for Project Completion • Modeling • Target date to finish Impact Assessments • Publication and dissemination plans • Pubs? Presentations?
5. Submit to the TOA-MD TEAM: • Economists must submit the following information for their • fast-track study area (and additional study areas if available) to • the TOA-MD Team (tradeoffs.team@oregonstate.edu) • by April 22 : • The Project’s Presentation (PowerPoint based on this template) • DevRAP Matrix and RAPs full narratives • TOA-MD Input data files • TOA-MD Output (results) files.
