  2. 2015: October-November Results and News • The Health Care Consortium is official. It is known as the “NY Nonprofit Benefits Exchange sponsored by the Council of Agency Executives and the Human Services Leadership Council”. There are 10 founding members: two HSLC member agencies and eight from the Council of Agency Executives (COAE) in Rochester. Negotiated rates will take effect January 1, 2016.

  3. 2015: October-November Results and News TRAINING and HR AFFINITY GROUP: • 21 people from 12 member agencies will “graduate” the Excellent Supervisor course on November 20. We anticipate offering the course again in 2016. • The HR Affinity Group members will meet on November 12 with Katie Doucette and Susan Burgess of the Leading Element, to work out specifics of a “Time Management” workshop for HSLC members. The goal is to help agencies and their staffs address the challenges of managing workload demands, expectations and time. The HR Affinity Group identified the need for this training, in response to the new regulations on classification of exempt/non-exempt employees. We anticipate offering this training in 2016.

  4. 2015: October-November Results and News FINANCE AFFINITY GROUP: • The Finance Affinity Group hosted Peter Dunn as their guest speaker on October 1 and over 15 agencies attended the meeting. New members joined the affinity group as a result of this meeting. Many attendees indicated that the opportunity to dialog with a community leader in a small group setting was a major benefit of this affinity group. • Haylor, Freyer and Coon met with the Finance Affinity Group on November 5. The focus was on worker’s compensation but the meeting provided an opportunity for dialog on a range of insurance issues.

  5. 2015: October-November Results and News ADVOCACY COMMITTEE: • The Advocacy Committee has completed their work on the advocacy process guidelines. These guidelines will be presented to the HSLC members at the November 13 meeting for approval. This will enable the committee to begin advocacy work, using these guidelines, at the outset of 2016.

  6. 2015: October-November Results and News RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS: • The HSLC has purchased a CD of a webinar “Leadership Transitions, Surviving the Unexpected and Planned Succession Events”. The webinar is sponsored by Nonprofit WebAdvisor. This CD is available for any interested agency to use. There is a single copy available. Please contact Loretta to borrow the CD.

  7. 2015: October-November Results and News COMMUNITY LIAISON ACTIVITIES: • Loretta has been invited to serve on a committee to develop and recommend to the Onondaga Citizens League possible study topics for 2016. • Loretta continues to participate in the 2015 OCL study on transportation, along with HSLC member agencies, including Providence Services, ACTS, Welch Terrace, Visions for Change, OnPoint for College, ARISE, Peace, Inc., Salvation Army, OCMS and others.

The dues increase in 2016, in accordance with the current HSLC three-year plan (2014-2016), is approximately 33% over the 2015 dues rate.

  9. 2015: October-November Results and News SURVEYS: • Results from the “State of the Human Services Nonprofit Sector” survey will be made available by early December. We are awaiting the final report from the SU student through the Community Link program. • Regarding the Financial Impact data request, please respond as soon as possible. This is crucial information for the HSLC strategic planning process. THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU FOR PARTICIPATING IN THESE SURVEYS!! YOUR COOPERATION PROVIDES VITAL DATA TO COMMUNICATE THE COLLECTIVE IMPACT OF THE HSLC MEMBERSHIP!!

  10. 2015: October-November Results and News • Along with a number of HSLC member agencies, Loretta attended the Syracuse community meeting on November 9 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church (The Harvest Christian Center) to hear a presentation by Ed Dougherty on the Rochester-Monroe Anti-Poverty Initiative. At the November 13 HSLC members’ meeting, we will have time on the agenda to engage in a follow-up to the discussion begun at that meeting, regarding next steps for Syracuse.
