  1. Article: Shaolintemplemi.org Martial Arts –A Way Of Life ‘Martial arts’ - the word brings images of beautiful, well aligned and elegant body movements to my mind. But martial is not all about a set of movements that look great to the spectators. It is a field of discipline that is supposed to prepare you for combat. The term martial art means ‘The art of Mars”. Mars is the god of war in Roman mythology. Martial arts in China, Japan and Korea, can be traced back to the classical Shaolin temple. Today different types of Martial arts exist, each of them having a unique objective in combat. Some of these styles have been there for centuries while others have been developed in more modern times. There is one thing common between all these styles - all of them teach a form of fighting a self defense technique. Martial arts are broken down into various sections like striking, grappling, and takedown styles, some of which these days are arguably more in the sport arena than martial art. Some of the most popular martial art styles are boxing, Kung fu ,karate, to name a few. Today martial arts are not just a technique for combat but it has become a lifestyle, a means of self defense. A few decades back the surroundings were very safe and people never used to worry if they had to stay out late night. But the times have changed now today our world is full of negativity and threats are looming everywhere. The unsafe environment of the modern world has given martial arts a status of self defense technique. Now many schools have introduced martial arts classes for children to teach them self defense. A technique that originated in China has now spread its wings till big cities of US like Detroit. In many of the schools in cities like Detroit, martial arts are being taught to the students just like any other subject. Children are not only the ones who are affected by security threats of the modern times but adults too are prone to attacks as well. If you are not proficient enough to protect yourself and your family, it can be very difficult for you to survive in this world. So the only option left for us is to learn martial arts like karate or kung fu, be fit, and prepared to face the dangers of daily life. Martial arts training classes is not only a great way to shield yourself from outside threats but it offers many other benefits, a few of them are named below: 1 Safety: if our self you are skilled enough to protect yourself, you will feel safe and free from anxiety, can go anywhere and at anytime. 2. Self confidence: the knowledge that you can counter any attack and defend yourself, will build up your confidence. 3. Physicality: hard training in self defense tactics will make you more fit and give you a great physique as well. 4. Awareness: Martial arts training taken for a long time can teach you to be more aware and alert of your surroundings. 5. Positive influence: Martial art training will heighten your spirits and improve your social skills to a great extent.
