KyFarmStart

KyFarmStart, funded by a USDA Beginning Farmer Award, is an educational initiative for new farmers with less than 10 years of experience. This 2-year program offers mentorship, training, and resources across several Kentucky locations including Bluegrass, Green River, and Kentucky River. Key events include the Kentucky Cattleman’s Convention and Fruit and Vegetable Grower Conference. Participants gain insights through field days and workshops, with registration currently open.   3. 2010 Update • Locations • Bluegrass (Bourbon, Harrison, Nicholas, and Scott) • Green River (Daviess, Henderson, Hancock, McLean, Ohio, Union, and Webster) • Kentucky River (Anderson, Fayette, Franklin, Jessamine, Mercer, and Woodford) • Lake Cumberland South (Pulaski, Russell, and Wayne)

  4. 2011 Plan • Mentorship Program for Round 1 Participants • Kentucky Cattleman’s Convention • Kentucky Women in Ag Convention • Fruit and Vegetable Grower Conference • Recruiting Round 2 host counties • Goal: To offer 1 location per district • Agent In-Service Training

  5. Host Counties • Program Support Funds • Year 2 = $800 per location • Year 3 = $500 per location • Field Day • Year 2 = $750 ($250/field day * 3 field days)

  9. Farm Transitions - Registration Open to producers and extension agents Agents will be responsible for registering participants at the appropriate location Agents will be required to register on CATPAWS to receive in-service credit

  10. Farm Transitions - Cost $50 registration fee/farm (up to 3 people +$10 each additional person) Agent registration fee paid through SARE grant
