Welcome to the WMS Parent Volunteer Training session! This agenda covers vital topics to help you effectively support our school community. We’ll cover introductions, school policies, PBIS initiatives, and volunteer responsibilities. You'll learn about logging volunteer hours, maintaining confidentiality, and handling emergencies. Your participation is crucial to our students' academic success as we strive for Respect, Organization, Achievement, and Responsibility - R.O.A.R.! Sign In • All visitors and volunteers must sign in and wear an identification badge/sticker. • Safety is our number one priority!
Logging Volunteer Hours • Please be sure to keep track of your hours and log them into the computer in the front office.
Attendance • Teachers rely on you to be a key player in the instructional program. • Please call the school so we can notify the teacher if you are unable to volunteer on your scheduled day.
Personal Belongings • Check with the teacher for the best place to store your belongings
Phone Calls • Cell phones should be on vibrate during regular school hours.
Respecting Instructional Time • When you come in to volunteer, this is not the time to have a meeting with the teacher to discuss your child’s progress. • If you need to meet with a teacher, please set up a different time that is convenient for both of you. • Please respect the teacher’s planning time.
Discipline • Discipline of all students is to be done by the WMS staff. • If you are working with a student or a small group and difficulty arises, let the teacher know immediately. • Always remember to compliment students with positive behavior.
Emergencies • To report an emergency please call the office on any school phone by dialing 240-236-4405
Fire Drills • Everyone must leave the building immediately and exit with the nearest class. No one can re-enter the building until administration gives the “all clear.”
Lockdown • In the event of a lockdown, everyone must remain within the building until clearance has been given to leave. • We are responsible for every individual within the school during a lockdown and safety during this time is crucial.
Universal Precautions • In the event of a student injury… • Contact the nearest teacher. • Contact the office
Allergies • Health Overview • Basic First Aid Issues • Anaphylaxis • Field Trips and Emergencies
Personal Health Concerns • Each volunteer must fill out an emergency contact form. • All information will be held in confidence
Confidentiality • What you see and hear at school stays within the confines of the school. • Contact the teacher or an administrator with any concern that you may have regarding a student or situation. • Please complete the Confidentiality Agreement, print it, and return it to the front office.
Reporting Suspected Child Abuse or Neglect • Address your concerns with the teacher and/or school administrator.
