However, if this is an exam question, remember the examiner has to be able to understand what you mean. I’m writing to find out if you had been able to decide yet if you and you mum are able to come to Mum’s surprise 50th Birthday party. I’m writing so you can keep this as a surprise for you mum too as it’s her birthday as well............ Come to a conclusion/call to action. Give it some thought and give us a bell to let us know what you think as soon as you can so we can start making arrangements. Sign off Yours Sincerely, (formal) Yours, Regards, Bye for now, (etc informal) Fred No need to print name as we assume that the person you are writing to knows who you are.

  5. Informal Letter WritingTask You are considering going to a University in the USA or the UK and have a cousin who is studying at a university in that country that you wish to attend. Write a letter to your cousin which asks their advice about studying in the USA or UK. In your letter enquire about: How they are getting on. What you have heard about the University/why you want to go there. The quality of teaching at the university. Accommodation & living costs University sports and social facilities. What life is like living in that country. Anything else you feel may be of use. Remember to set your letter out correctly and sign off at the end.
