  1. Transfer Arrangements For Admission September 2018

  2. The Aquinas arrangements for Transfer will be shared with 35 other Grammar Schools across Northern Ireland including non-denominational Grammar Schools that are part of the Post Primary Transfer Consortium [PPTC]

  3. We are using GL Assessment Procedures in English and Mathematics. GL have been experts in assessment for over 25 years. The assessment will be based on the KS2 Northern Ireland Curriculum.

  4. GL Assessment organises the setting, marking and standardisation of the assessment and will provide a remark if required. • One English Assessment of 50 Minutes. • One Maths Assessment of 45 Minutes. • Multiple Choice answers

  5. The English Assessment Paper has 3 reading passages with 60 questions (50mins) • Please note that the passages will be progressive in terms of the level of difficulty. • There will be a familiarisation exercise prior to this test (20mins).

  6. The Mathematics Assessment Paper has 45 questions which take 45 minutes. • There will be a familiarisation exercise prior to this test (10mins). • Details of the content for both papers are included within section three of the Specification of Use. It is included in registration pack.

  7. The Assessment will be held on Saturday 18th November 2017 in all participating schools. • The Supplementary paper will be held on Saturday 9th December 2017.

  8. The Assessment will be held in halls in Aquinas. This places a limit of approximately 200 students who can take the test here. • Pupils may sit the assessment in any of the participating schools in the consortium – this does not have to be the school of choice for transfer.

  9. We request that pupils wear their Primary School uniforms. Generally pupils will be grouped with pupils from their Primary school. • Irish Language Students will be clustered in centres with supervisors who are Irish speaking.

  10. Forms may be obtained from the Aquinas Website, the PPTC website, by post or you may pick up a registration pack tonight. • A guide for parents will accompany the Registration Form. • An original Birth Certificate and passport size photograph of your child will be required with the registration form. • Preference of Assessment Centre should be stated.

  11. Include any application for Special Access arrangements or Special Educational Needs of your child. • No cost for applicants. • Registration Forms should be returned to the preferred Assessment Centre by Friday 22nd September 2017 – deadline is 2pm

  12. School will open at 8.45am. • Parents may not enter the building on the day of the assessment. • A member of staff or a prefect will greet children and bring them to the allocated areas.

  13. Pencils and erasers etc. will be provided by school. • Answer sheets are pre-printed with pupils’ personal details. • There will be a 20 minute break mid-morning.

  14. The actual Transfer Form • This will be administered by the EA – in our case the Belfast region. • The Transfer Form will be completed after consultation with Primary School Principal. • Schools should be nominated in order of preference.

  15. Schools select against published criteria. • Letters are sent to parents in late May stating the School to which the pupil has been admitted.

  16. Information / Registration packs are available on the way out • If you have any questions please speak to myself, Vice Principals or Senior Teachers Thank you for attending. Safe journey home.
