  1. personification • definition: giving human or “person” like qualities to something that is not a person Examples: • The trees danced in the wind. • The garbage disposal vomited tonight’s dinner all over the sink. • Non-examples: • The dog said, “Ruff, ruff, I’m a dog!” • This is animation, not personification!

  2. internal rhyme • definition: words that have similar ending sounds at inside the SAME line of poetry (translation: one word in line of poetry rhymes with another in the same line) • *this is also an exact rhyme Examples: • “Candy the yams and spice the hams” (4) • “Soggy beans and tangerines” (18)

  3. slant rhymes • definition: two or more words almost have the same sound at the end, but they are slightly off Examples: • “dear” & “door” • “bridge & grudge”
