Healthcare national landscape effecting healthcare IT National Healthcare Legislation • “AFFORDABLE CARE ACT”: March 30, 2010; H.R. 3590 The comprehensive health care reform law enacted in March 2010. The law in two parts: • The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law on March 23, 2010 • Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act on March 30, 2010. The name “Affordable Care Act” is used to refer to the final, amended version of the law. • The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 directs the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to create a national voluntary program for accountable care organizations (ACOs) • by January 2012.
