  2. Present Simple Negatives To make a sentence negative : All verbs other than be add do not before the verb when the subject is plural, with I and you. All verbs other than be add does not before the verb when the subject is singular, with he, she, and it.

  3. Plural Subjects, I & You Negatives • Ido not work at Al Ain Zoo. • Youdo not study every day. • Wedo not live in Dubai. • Theydo not speak Arabic. • The studentsdo not come from the U.A.E. • Note: do not can be changed to don’t.

  4. Singular Subjects, He, She, & It Negatives • The child does noteat breakfast every day. • He usually does not exercise in the afternoon. • Shedoes not wake up early. • It often does not rain in December. Note: does not can be changed to doesn’t.

  5. Important Note • Note that the second or main verb stays in the base form. It does not change, even when the subject is singular: • He doesn’t speak French. • NOT • He doesn’t speaks French.

  6. In summary All verbs (not be): With a plural subject, with I or you Add do not before the verb With a singular subject, with he, she, or it. Add does not before the verb
