  2. The Corps of Discovery The Corps of Discovery included a total of 33 members that were chosen to go on this journey to explore the west. They were on a mission to expand America and to see what other people had only heard of, but had never seen before. Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, and other other members of the corps went on an expedition to explore the west. They will discover the Indians that lived there, how they lived, and what they lived on. Not only are they going to make peace with the Natives, but to also search for the famous and not yet discovered Northwest Passage. However, the biggest and most important reason that they are going to the west is to know what resources were available to their use. That is why President Jefferson had told them to record all the things that they see in a journal, sketch out the species of plants and animals that they see, and to bring some samples home in the east. The Corps were also to map the mysterious territory in order for people in the east to know the west better.

  3. The Beginning Journey The Corps of Discovery were very nervous at the beginning of the journey because they had some doubts about its success. However, as they left the last American city they knew that there was no turning back now. Lewis had brought his dog with him on the journey. Clark brought his slave, York, with him and he will be later on a big help to the team. They were all ready with supplies and most importantly they had confidence with their skills that they brought along.
