  3. Here’s What You Need to Know • Each Day (8 periods, 6 minute passing periods) • Period 1 7:45-8:30 • Period 2 8:36-9:21 • Period 3 9:27-10:12 • Period 4 10:18-11:06 • Period 5A 11:12-11:57 • Period 5C 11:57-12:42 • Period 6 12:48-1:33 • Period 7 1:39-2:24 • Period 8 2:30-3:15

  4. Here’s What You Need to Know • LUNCH • 45 minutes long • It’s either after 4th(A Lunch) • OR after 5th (C Lunch) • ALL Freshmen eat in the Cafeteria • You can bring your own lunch • Lunch assignments are random & are locked in at the beginning of the semester

  5. Here’s What You Need to Know • Freshmen Orientation Wednesday July 30th • Pick up your schedule • Tour the building • Get your locker • Meet key people & find your classes • Get your books

Here’s What You Need to Know • BYOD: Bring your Own Device • Some classes have digital textbooks & allow you to use your own IPADS, IPODs, laptops & smart phones • You can have your Cell Phone • You can USE your Cell Phone before & after school, during lunch, and passing periods • TIP: Confiscated phones have to be picked up by your parent/guardian after school

  7. Here’s What You Need to Know • Activities to join or be involved in • Athletics (Physical Night is April 30th at 5:30pm) • Academic Clubs • Band & Choir • Journalism • Theatre & Performing Arts • Student Government • Service Clubs

  8. Here’s How We Schedule • How Do I Know What to Take? • English 4 years • Math 4 years • Science 3 years • Social Studies 3 years • PE 2 classes • Health 1 class • Preparing for College & Careers 1 class • Electives

Here’s How We Schedule • When you earn a semester grade of D- or better, you earn a credit • To graduate, you need 40 total credits. • Most of these credits are in the “Core” subject areas • Your grades are important ALL FOUR YEARS because your semester grades & credits=GPA • Higher GPA=more choices after high school • High School credits earned in Middle School count (do your best!)

  10. Here’s How We Schedule • What if I want an Honors Diploma? • All my semester grades must be C- or better • Total GPA has to be B- or better • I need more credits (47 instead 40) • I have to take additional classes • I will be required to meet additional requirements

  11. Here’s How We Schedule • RELAX • Your 9th grade schedule allows you to choose any diploma • You can change your diploma type • Focus on good grades & you will be good to go, we will help you along the way!

Here’s How We Schedule • You need to use your Freshman Guide to complete your Blue Course Selection Sheet • Classes you will select (SEEK TEACHER INPUT): • English (2 semesters-You can select what level) • Math (2 semesters-AlgGeomAlg 2Adv Math) • Science (2 semesters) • PE (2 semesters-Team & Individual) • Health/Preparing for College & Careers • Resource (2 semesters) • Social Studies or Elective • Elective (World Language, Art, Band, C4, Business, etc)

  13. Here’s What You Do Next • Talk to your teachers • Talk to your parents/friends • Decide what classes are right for you • Fill out your Blue Schedule Sheet • Bring it to school next week for our 2nd visit • You will need your Parent Portal Login Information to complete your schedule

Here’s What You’ve Learned • Vocabulary • Freshmen Orientation: an event you need to attend to get your schedule & start high school • BYOD: Bring Your Own Device • Electives: classes you choose that count in credit total but may not be “core” classes • Core Classes: English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health/PE • Credits: you earn 1 credit for each semester grade of D- or better (minimum of 40 credits required) • GPA: Grade Point Average • Prerequisite: a requirement you must meet to take a class
