  2. RULES/DIRECTIONS • Open the mouth of the alligator • Each person takes turns pushing down a tooth • Try to be the person who does not get bit!

  3. OBSERVATIONS & DATA • What pattern(s) can you find? • Can you predict which tooth will cause the mouth to close? • Write your ideas on the white board. • Now, record your ideas in your comp book.

  4. ASK A QUESTION • What do we want to find out? • Write a question you have about the game—NOT the inventor, manufacturer, or about the look of the toy. • Avoid questions that can be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”.

  5. WHAT DOES IT DO? • What does the crocodile do? • List the actions OR steps that the crocodile does in the game.

  6. HOW DOES IT DO IT? • What is going on in the toy that makes it do what it does? • Write ideas on white boards. • Use words and pictures. • Explanation should include all of the pieces of “What does the croc do?”

  7. HOMEWORK • Come up with your own explanation of how the crocodile works. • Use the School Loop discussion boards to share your ideas. • Make one posting of what you think. You may just type your idea. You may also upload a picture or scan of your ideas. Or use any other method of sharing your ideas. • Make one posting critiquing another student’s ideas. Avoid writing your opinion. State how the evidence/your observations support or do not support the ideas.
