PT ARPENI PRATAMA OCEAN LINES Tbk. • Indonesia is a archipelago country comprises of more than 18,000 islands. • It is located in the crossroad between Asia and Australia continent as well as between the Pacific and Indian Ocean. • With 1,700 ports, it is heavily dependant on Maritime Transport for International as well as Domestic trade.

Number of Indonesia Flag vessels • Currently at 9,835 unit, • Increasing as dispensation for offshore vessels will be lifted. • Indonesian crew required for National Flag vessels due to Cabotage. • A challenge to even provide enough crew for the National Flag vessels.

Conclusion • Ship Owners must do their part to improve Competency Level of their own sea-staff. • Government should recognise Indonesia’s unique Maritime Heritage and have a Tripartite Agreement with Ship Owners as well as Maritime Academies to upgrade Indonesian seafarers to meet demand of the National Flag vessels.
