  2. Focus • The project is aimed at addressing the Child Labor problem in India. • Continuing Education Project encompasses a cluster of 10 villages in Shimoga district in Bhadravathitaluk.

  3. Vikasana -Overview • Women empowerment • Child labor eradication and rehabilitation through Bridge school and non formal education • Nutritional management, community health, HIV/AIDS, herbal medicine practices • Natural resource management, bio-diversity conservation, environmental awareness programs, watershed development, ground water rechargement, sustainable agriculture practices • Skill development programs for youths, panchayath raj strengthening, birth registration, program for needy and downtrodden community.

Vikasana - History • Founded in 1988 • Team of likeminded and dedicated members, experienced in education, social issues, environment and law • Benefit of mankind targeting socially, educationally and economically weaker section of the society esp. SC/ST and tribal communities - Identify and meet their needs and aspirations • For the last 22 years, VIKASANA is active in 4 districts - Chikmagalore, Shimoga, Davangere and Hassan, covering 480 villages/slums of 13 blocks. • http://www.vikasana.org/

Objectives of Bridge School • Identify child laborers and school dropouts between the age group of 6-18 years in working area • Provide educational, residential and nutritional support (6 monts to 1 year) for rejoining formal school • Eradicate child laborer in the identified areas – Child-labor-free villages!! • To enable Children to develop themselves personally, educationally and culturally • To sensitize the target community on child labour and school drop out issues

Asha, Seattle Involvement (Bridge School) • Asha, Seattle along with UFlorida elected to sponsor activities of Vikasana’s bridge school in 2006 • Asha, Seattle has supported yearly financial requirements & monitored the project • AshaUFlorida has been the primary steward • Seattle stewards – Manohita, Sowmya, Nagendra • UFlorida stewards – Sharan, Meenakshi • Stewards have played significant roles at the chapter and center level including, coordinator, projects coordinator, WAH projects evaluators, treasurer, etc • Vikasana operates out of Tarikere (Bhadravati) and focuses on child laborer’s rehabilitation in that area
