1917.91(a)(1) – Eye and Face Protection • Eye and face protection – exposure to hazards. • Comply with ANSI Z-87.1-1989
1917.91(a)(2) – Eye and Face Protection • Employees wearing corrective eyeglasses – protective equipment must be worn over glasses. • Prescription safety glasses may be substituted if they provide equivalent protection.
1917.91(b) – Eye and Face Protection • Eye protection equipment must be maintained in good condition.
1917.91(c) - Eye and Face Protection • Clean and disinfected before reissuance to another employee.
1917.92 Respiratory Protection • Subpart I, 1910.134 is incorporated by reference [see 1917.1(a)(2)(x)]
1917.93 – Head Protection • Protective helmet worn where there is potential for injury to the head from falling objects.
1917.93(b) – Head Protection • Equipment must comply with American National Standards Institute ANSI Z-89.1-1986.
1917.93(c) - Head Protection • Previously worn protective hats cleaned and disinfected before reissuance.
1917.94(a) & (b) – Foot Protection • Protective footwear required – danger of foot injuries. • Falling or rolling objects. • Objects piercing the sole. • Footwear must comply with ANSI Z-41-1991
1917.95(a) – Other Protective Measures • Protective clothing- where work requires special protective clothing. • Clothing previously worn – cleaned and disinfected before reissuance.
1917.95(b) – Other Protective Measures • Personal flotation devices (PFD) required where workers may be pulled into water. • Working in isolation. • Limited working space creates hazard. • Work area obstructed – lack of safe footing.
1917.95(b)(2) & (3) – Other Protective Measures • Personal flotation devices [PFD] • USCG approved • PFDs maintained in safe condition
1917.95(c) - Other Protective Measures • Emergency facilities • Exposed to hazardous substances requiring emergency bathing, eye washing or other facilities. • Maintained in good working order.
