  2. CTU history – 299 years18. January 1707Rescript of emperor Josef I.

  3. Czech Technical University in Prague • Faculty of Civil Engineering 5 979 • Faculty of Mechanical Engineering 4 899 • Faculty of Electrical Engineering 6 020 • Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering 1 196 • Faculty of Architecture 1 292 • Faculty of Transportation Sciences 1 542 • Faculty of Biomedical Engineering 150 Total 7 Faculties and about 21 000 students

  4. Staff 2 professors 2 assoc. professors 8 assistant professors 0,5 secretary Students 318 III.year 226 IV.year 25 specialization Building Services Systems V.year 28 international students 14 PhD students Department of Microenvironmental and Building Services Engineering The department provides courses in building services systems for Building Engineering, Business and Management in Civil Engineering and Water Engineering and Water Structures focused on the theory of indoor environment, sanitary systems, heating and air-conditioning, artificial lighting, simulation of buildings, and electrical installations. Scientific research, publishing, consulting and expert activities are concentrated on solving special problems in practical applications and on IT applications in individual disciplines.

  5. Study programs at Faculty of Civil engineering CTU in Prague • Master courses in English • BUILDINGS AND ENVIRONMENT • Civil engineering • Bachelor courses in English • Civil engineering

  6. Intelligent structures Integrated view of building - services systems and building structure in life cycle Ecology sanitary systems Environment friendly building materials Intelligent low-energy HVAC systems Protection of the building against negative effect of environment ( radon…) Alternative energy sources Buildings and Environment Minimal impact to outdoor environment

  7. Study program Buildings & EnvironmentCompulsory subjects

  8. Education tools – theory… • Mathematic modelling • CFD • Heat transfer • Energy performance • Life cycle assesment

  9. … practical • Design projects • Laboratory measurements • Excursions • Summer schools

  10. Who can study? „Condition for acceptance to study in master course is successful completion minimally bachelor degree studies in the Building construction, Environmental engineering, Building Services Engineering and related study branches.Entrance examination is in the form of oral interview, in reasonable cases written interview.“ BACHELORS AND MASTERS IN TECHNICAL STUDY BRANCHES RELATED TO BUILDINGS

  11. Professional career after university? • Design company • Integrated building design • Building services design (HVAC, sanitary technology) • Consulting engineer in the field thermal performace, acoustic, lighting, building energy, energy auditing • Building services design team leader • Building practise • Building company manager • HVAC commissioning • Administrative • Government, local authorities • Doctoral studies • And other…. Authorisation Environmental engineering Building design Energy auditing

  12. Research Project SMARTHOMES The Smarthomes project is aimed on monitoring and remote control of building services. The measured data are processing and sending via Internet wires from a local gateway into central database somewhere in the world. • There are stored measured values of: • Indoor climate – air humidity and temperature • Heating system – surface contact temperature • Gas concentration – CO, CO2 • Energy consumption – electricity, water, gas • The energy supplier is able to affect supply of energy or from dispatching centre to read energy meter. • An user of this system can watch the monitored rooms on your PC screen, mobile phone or on your handheld.

  13. SUNtool 5. FP EU UK, France, Finnland, Greece, Switzerland, Czech Republic • Project SUNtool aims to develop an integrated resource flow model and complementary educational tool. This will enable community masterplanning professionals (architects, town planners, etc.) and specialist consultants.

  14. Research projects VZ 05 Sustainable building • Optimisation of building energy and environmental systems • Alternative energy systems • Passive and low-energy buildings • Natural ventilation and air conditioning

  15. Research project: Optimisation and measurement of sustainable building energy environmental systems Technical solution Simulation results Measurement Thermovision

  16. Research projects VZ 03 Development of comptuter simulation algorithms and its application in engineering Subtask: Macromodelling of building energy systems • Modelling of building energy performance • Energy distribution systems • Energy transmission systems • Energy sources • System integration • Control functions based on the models • Indoor and outdoor environment modelling (IAQ, microclimate, heat islands) • Aplication of stochastic models on human behaviour modelling • CFD for engineering tasks.
