  1. PLN and all that means

  2. The problem for me with technology continues on and on…even though my husband is a tech teacher at my school. This is my second attempt to create this document. I was inspired by a class mate who created a slide show with drawings…I can’t draw…so using my PLN I decided to take her idea and go a different way…kidpix drawings created moved into iphoto and then they would run like a movie sharing my incredible insight in an easy to read format…not! 

  3. I saved a bunch of graphics moved them into formatted kidpix slides and exported them to movies…had I used my PLN correctly I would have known that wouldn’t work…I would have checked for posts about doing that kind of thing…I didn’t. So my slides are all individual movies that do not seem to be able to be imported anywhere. I will go on to format 2.

  4. Here is my view of PLNs Anyone who has been living where I live understands the value and the threat of PLNs. The government here knew enough to shut our internet and to cut off our mobile phones In the hopes of stopping a revolution.

  5. History shows us this did not work. It was true that cutting off the access to information was extremely stressful for those of us here in Cairo, but what the government did not expect was that people were so used to access to information they were completely unwilling to give it up. Like Christmas in “Whoville” It came anyway. ( but never would have happened without the internet, twitter and facebook)

  6. I can read someone’s blog rather than waitng for them to be able to publish a book. I can find the answers to questions I have about teaching when I have them not months later.

  7. I have chosed a number of different groups to belong to in order to get the information that makes me better at my job. Where my informatin comes from is websited like NCTM, from professional groups, from colleagues who have attended marvelous conferences, from conferences that colleagues recommend, from other international teachers I know who live all over the world and work in different school systems and interact with other teachers who work in different systems. Like the famous shampoo add. “ I found a shampoo I liked and I told to friends and they told two friends and so on and so on….

  8. Emailing and listserves and blogs makes the telling of more friends and more friends the very distribution of knowledge simple and extremely inexpensive. Think of the coupon organizations that can now send coupons out to millions of households just for the cost of the graphics, no publishing, no shipping, no storing…but it brings up the problem that I have yet to resolve…how to get through all the information. The information created just by our class is overwhelming my email. I guess what I got out of the lesson is that there are a multitiude of vehicles to gather information and my responsibility is to chose them wisely so that they work for me.
