  1. Welcome to the Island Game In this term you will find yourself marooned on a desert island. You will have to set up a community, develop a set of rules for people to live by, decide what values your island is going to hold and how you will express them. In the meantime you will be set a number of challenges that you will have to cope with. Read on........

  2. Marooned........ • TASKS: No. 1: You are in a group which has found itself marooned on a desert island. You need to draw, in detail, the island you are on. Each person in your group has explored a different part of the island. Now draw what you have seen onto your island map. Include all the natural features and any wildlife you have come across. What do you name your island and why? What is the name of your group and why? Your island.........

  3. Survival........ • No. 2: You now remember that although you have survived on your island, four of your friends did not. Why did you survive and your friends did not? Luck? Strength? Supernatural intervention? Write down your story about the reasons you survived and others did not. Your story........

  4. Leadership..... • No. 3: Elect a leader. You are to come up with your own system of election of the group leader. Leadership of the group will not be easy, as people will depend on you for difficult decisions – you might often be moaned at, and you will have to take on board the responsibility for the group’s safety and survival. How will you elect such a person? – they might not always be the most obvious person. Who is the right person..........

  5. The Group........ • No. 4: The leader is to assign tasks to each member. The task sheet will be given to you by your teacher. Why have you allocated each member of the group a particular task? Is it clear what each group member is supposed to do? What will be the punishment if they do not fulfil their requirements? How does the punishment fit the crime? Fulfilling responsibilities......

  6. Learning to live together...... • No. 5: It is very clear that you will have to produce a set of rules for living on this island. How will you do this? Group decision? Will the leader impose his/her decisions? Will you ask for any help from the God/s of the island, if the island has such? What will you do if a member of your group does not follow the rules? What are the reasons behind the rules? Are they based on what you believe is important on your island? When you have decided who will be responsible for the rules enter that on your task sheet. Setting boundaries...

  7. It’s a mystery..... • No. 6: Something mysterious happens....you will receive further instructions from your teacher...... Surviving through difficulty........

  8. Disaster........ • No. 7: A major problem occurs on your island...what is it? A disease? A disagreement? Something wrong with the water? An attack? Something else? How do you solve it? Is it caused naturally, or by some human intervention? Is it through the actions of a member of your group? Did they follow the rules? Is it because of something supernatural? Will you survive? Can you trust each other? Where will help come from?.........

  9. Who is in control... • No. 8: Something strange is going on.....things keep happening for which there is no natural explanation......what is this due to? What will you do about it? Is there something bigger going on that you don’t know about?

  10. THE FORCE..... • No. 9: You discover that something called THE FORCE is responsible for everything that has happened on your island, and even the fact that you didn’t die, but survived to live on the island. How do you discover this? What are you going to do about THE FORCE? What is THE FORCE like? How do you know this? What/who is THE FORCE?.... Can you/will you trust THE FORCE?.....

  11. THE FORCE........ • No. 10: THE FORCE has communicated with one of your group, and said that there will be a visit very shortly where you will know THE FORCE has come. What will you do in preparation for THE FORCE? Your task now is to construct a special building to honour THE FORCE and to represent your island. You will then be asked to design a ceremony/celebration/festival of your island and the goodness THE FORCE has shown to you. You have a design sheet to work through for the task of designing your special building and your festival. Coming to the island...how will you know THE FORCE has come?..... What will you do?......

  12. Questions, questions...... • No. 11: THE FORCE has communicated to you; your group leader can approach him with 5 questions from the group. Choose your questions carefully. THE FORCE will answer the questions in a way you will understand. What are your questions going to be? What do you need to know? Are the answers THE FORCE gives helpful?...

  13. Your treasure box... • No. 12: THE FORCE has made it clear that you are now to leave the island. You are given one small box into which you place some things if ever the island is inhabited again. What will you leave in your box that really represents the island, and your story on it? If a person read or saw what you left, would they understand the story of your time on the island? What will you advise the next group of people who find your island to do? What would you tell them to avoid or preserve? What shows that you have been there, and what tells others about your group?.....
