  1. WAVENEY F.C.BECOMING A YOUTH FOOTBALL MANAGER

  2. Message from our Chairman Dear Manager / Coach I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Waveney F.C. Becoming a team manager can be a bit daunting at first, but I hope that the information contained in this ‘Induction Pack’ will help you get a feel of who we are at Waveney F.C. and the level of support you can expect from us. There will be a number of reasons why you, having discussed this decision with those that are important to you, chose to become a youth team manager and one of those reasons would inevitably be that you would get enjoyment, not only for yourself but from the young people in your team and their parents and supporters. Maybe you wanted to put something back into the community and allow young people the opportunity to play a wonderful game and enjoy all the benefits that team sport brings or perhaps there was no one else who wanted to be the team manager. Whatever your reason, please be assured that we will support you in what you do but please remember if you are unsure how to deal with a situation, please ask. The excitement of any new season is special and this season will be a little more special as the club celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Waveney F.C. and I believe that the enthusiasm shown in supporting our ‘Summer Ball’ and ‘Fun Day’ are vey encouraging signs for another successful season both on and off the pitch. There are 3 words which are going to be very important to you over the next few months. Success, Positivity and Support. Success is measured by us all in different ways, it is what ever you want it to be and does not always mean winning every game of football, success means so much more than that. Please take a little time to consider how you and your young team can set some realistic targets and goals throughout the season to ensure that you have a season to remember. Please remember to acknowledge those little achievements regardless of how small they may appear to you, to one of your young players it may mean everything. Remember success breeds success and will generate a feel good factor around your team.

  3. Message from our Chairman..cont …..Positivity is very important, there will be times when you will feel down in the dumps, perhaps after a poor result, but take a look around you and you will see that those who are feeling fed up the most will often be the adults, not the players. Some managers will think that they are judged on results and a poor result is a reflection on themselves. Please be assured that this is not the case at Waveney F.C. The most important thing is that the players, parents and most importantly yourself have a great time being involved in football and want to come back week after week and enjoy themselves. Once the positivity is lost, it can be difficult to get back. We all enjoy being around people who are positive and happy, people will react to you so much better if you have a smile on your face and a joy to be around. Finally, Support, not only for yourself but also by supporting the club which has given you the opportunity and the tools to become a football manager and given young people the opportunity to become footballers. The club will provide you with all the support you need to ensure that your role is as painless as possible, we are all experienced and can help you if you face a difficult situation. This guide will help you, but please ask if you are unsure of anything. In return we also ask you and your team, players and parents, to support the club. We are a big club and pride ourselves on being a family friendly club with a environment to match with parents, players and coaches all pulling together at certain times of the year to ensure that this continues, we do not want any team to become isolated and not feel part of Waveney F.C. and that will be something that you will need to be aware of.On match-days, It would be great if you could take a little time to support and cheer on other Waveney F.C. teams once your game has finished and not rush off. Pop into the club house and have a chat with other managers or staff members over a coffee and a bacon roll. Help another manager to put the goals away or gather their bibs and cones after a training session. These little gestures will be very much appreciated and will go a long way in giving each other the support that we all need from time to time. We are a very friendly club and once again Iwarmly welcome you to Waveney F.C. Mark GambleClub Chairman

  4. Welcome to Waveney F.C. Club Ethos/Culture • The F.A. and Waveney F.C. believe that all players are valuable, regardless of their ability. Being involved in football, having fun and being part of a team is always more important than winning matches and tournaments. • As a manager/coach, you will be the focal point of the team, you will need to be first to arrive at training and the last to leave. You will be accessible to parents and players for their concerns and you will do your best to rectify issues. • The players will look up to you, as a manager/coach and as a person. If you ever played sport or attended a club, think back to the leader or coach, positive or negative, you will always remember them. This is the impact you will have on your players. • Fair playing time and coaching sessions are all things that are important to players and this should be factored into playing. • We are NOT a “win at all costs” club. Your goal is to ensure that the players are happy and they leave training and matches feeling proud of themselves and their team. • Lastly, not everyone can manage and coach youth football, the parents are welcome to help and support you, but they are not welcome to judge and criticize.

  5. Useful Contacts • Mark Gamble Club Chairman waveneyfc@gmail.com • Mark Gamble Registrations and Subs support. • Angie Walker Welfare Officer (DBS check initially) • Kevin Dewhirst Your Kit and Supplies Man • David Beecher F.A. Fulltime Website Support • Kevin Dewhirst Football Development • Shane Davey & Kevin Dewhirst Training Allocations (times and venues) • Jane Carter Sponsorship Co-ordinator • A full list of contacts with telephone numbers is available on the website www.waveneyfc.co.uk

  6. STARTING A TEAMApplication & DBS check • Before starting this process you will have completed an application process and had a meeting with Waveney F.C. Club officials to discuss becoming a manager.Once your application is successfully completed it is useful to follow this initial guide. • You may have inherited a team that are already together or starting a new group of players from scratch, either way – this should help you with the first things to do. • DBS (formerly Criminal Record Bureau) As a manager/coach for a youth football team, you will be required to complete a full disclosure DBS check. Angie Walker will arrange this for you. • Firstly, you will need to visit http://www.gbg.onlinedisclosures.co.uk/ and complete all of your details, the Organisation PIN is 112398, use your own email address & the secret word is clarinet. There will be a fee of £10 to pay and this will be refunded once the check is complete and has been returned. • You will then need to arrange with Angie Walker to see your identification and she will authorise this via the website. Arrangements can be made to meet Angie at Barnard Meadow at a suitable time for all.

  7. Your Players and Parents • One of the first jobs you have as a manager/coach is to meet with your players and their parents. • You can either do this on a one to one basis or as a group but the same message must be given to everyone. • It is useful at this stage to collect contact details for each of the parents and details of any medical issues you should be aware of. • Although at this stage, you may not have completed your F.A. Level 1 course, it is useful to know the club ethos and to discuss this with the parents and players.

  8. FA Level 1 Course • If you haven’t already completed this, all managers and coaches must do so. There is a cost involved which will be reimbursed by Waveney F.C. at a later date. • You can complete the course at any venue and there are a selection of dates and days to chose from. • Firstly, visit this link to retrieve your FAN number https://secure.thefa.com/fan/retrievefandetails.aspx If you do not have one, you can obtain one from the same link almost immediately. • Your next step is to find and book the F.A. Level 1 course, I would suggest searching both Norfolk F.A. and Suffolk F.A. and you can choose the venue and days to suit you. Payment will need to be made at the time of booking. • It is worth noting that the course includes the safeguarding and Emergency First Aid training required to manage or coach a team. No other first aid courses meet the same requirements set by the F.A.

  9. Kit and Sponsors • As a manager, your team will need training supplies, bibs, footballs, First Aid Kit. This will be supplied by Waveney F.C. and Kevin Dewhirst will arrange to supply you with this kit. • Your team will need a sponsor, your sponsor would pay an initial £400 for the first set of kits, shirts, shorts and socks. • Their company logo/name will be printed on the shirts so they would need to supply this to you. • If you need help or support to obtain a sponsor, Jane Carter will provide support with this. • Once a sponsor, has been secured, Jane should be advised and will arrange for the website to be updated with their details. • The kits last for two seasons and Kevin will arrange to meet you before you order to help with sizing. • Your sponsor may wish to provide further funds for training tops, tracksuits etc. if they wish. • All funding needs to be passed to Ann Reid as the treasurer and she will ensure that Kevin is aware. • Waveney F.C. has a contract to supply the kits with Nike. All Waveney F.C. branded kits must be purchased from the club shop, which can be accessed at https://www.clubwebshop.com/a-z/clubs/waveneyfc/. • Once you have submitted your order it will be sent to Kevin for approval and he will check this for you. If you need any help with the website or ordering, Kevin will be happy to help.

  10. Training Times & Venue • Barnards Meadow, Ormiston Denes Academy and Dip Farm are all used by Waveney F.C. for training (dependant on your age group) • Shane Davey & Kevin Dewhirst will be able to advise you of a suitable training time and location to suit you and your team. This is normally for one hour per week. • Prior to beginning coaching a team, it is worth attending and observing some of the current teams and what they do. Kevin or Shane will be able to advise on the most suitable team for you. • If you require any help with training, please speak to Kevin or Shane.

  11. Registering, Signing-on and Payment • Prior to signing on with Waveney F.C., it is essential that both managers and parents take the time to read the clubs policies and procedures. They can be accessed at: Waveney Policies and Procedures • The next step is the signing on form. This needs to be completed every season by the parents/carers of players. Waveney can supply these or they are available to print from Norfolk FA signing on formThese will need to be collected and forwarded to Mark Gamble who will register your player(s) with your league onto the ‘Whole Game System’. • The annual subscription is £180 per season (1st Sept. until 31st August) This includes all training sessions and league / cup matches (it does not include friendlies or pre-season games arranged by yourself. The payment can be made in full at the start of the season or the parents can pay by a monthly direct debit of £20.50 for 9 months starting on the 1st September until the 1st May, the direct debit will then be suspended until the following season. Parents only need to cancel the direct debit if the player leaves the club or changing bank accounts etc. The link to set up direct debits for the first time is Waveney FC Direct DebitYou do not need a membership number to set up the direct debit. • Any payment issues can be discussed with Mark Gamble • Note –Waveney formerly used a system called membermojo to register all players, this has been disbanded as the information was surplus to requirements. Some parents may continue to receive emails/reminders from the system and these can be disregarded.

  12. Starting the season – Boys & Mixed Teams • At the beginning of the season you will be given your FA guidebook. This will have the names and telephone numbers of all of the managers for all of the teams, current for the season. • Fixtures are published on fulltime-league.thefa.com • First search for Norfolk & Suffolk Youth League. Then use the drop down menus for your age group and team. • All kick off times are published as 10am but this will not necessarily be the case. Kick off times are set per club, therefore, if you are at Home, you will receive an email from David Beecher advising of your kick off time and pitch. If you are Away, you will need to make contact with the opposition manager from the guidebook. • You will need to cascade this information to your team as soon as you have the times confirmed, along with the meeting time and the address for the pitch.

  13. Starting the Season – Girls Teams • Fixtures are published on fulltime-league.thefa.com • First search for Norfolk Women & Girls League. Then use the drop down menus for your age group and team. • Each manager has access to an online handbook for the season which gives the details of the names and telephone numbers of all of the managers for all of the teams, current for the season.

  14. Match Day Stats • Before the start of the season, you will be registered on www.fulltime-league.thefa.com this is the site you need to visit to record referees score and stats for your team after every game. • On the morning of the match you will receive a text to prompt you to record the result of the game in a set format – further instructions will be supplied. Everything else is done through the website above by the Tuesday following the match. Ideally as soon as possible is best. • You have to record a referees name and a score out of 100, a low score will need to be followed up by a formal report to Dave Beecher to explain the reasons why. • You will also record scores for the behaviour of the oppositions manager, players and supporters and the condition of the pitch. • Once this is complete, you can add the players that attended and the goal scorers, this will count towards their attendances for future awards.
