  2. Infertility Treatment / IVF / ICSI This is a process by which an egg is fertilized by sperm outside the body. The process involves using fertility hormones to stimulate a woman’s ovaries, under strict monitoring, removing eggs under an anesthetic and letting sperm fertilize them in a dish in a special medium in a Laboratory or injecting a sperm directly into the egg for fertilization. The resultant embryo is then cultured for 2–6 days in the laboratory and transferred to the patient’s uterus with the intention of establishing a successful pregnancy.

It could be due to a low count/ sluggish or immobile sperm, misshapen sperm, or blockages that prevent the delivery of sperm. Clinical Embryology / Ovarian Induction This involves using tablets/ injections to stimulate the ovaries to produce “follicles” which are expected to contain eggs.  These are then monitored and at the appropriate time a trigger injection may be used for release of the eggs to maximize the chances of getting pregnant.

Clinical Embryology / Laser Assisted Hatching There is some evidence to show that in certain cases like women over 35 years of age, in case of frozen embryos and in those with repeated IVF/ ICSI failures, an improvement in pregnancy rates can be achieved by drilling a small hole in the embryo shell. This is called as Assisted Laser Hatching. This facilitates the embryo in breaking out of this shell to initiate the implantation process.
