  1. What You Should Know About Scholarships? Scholarships help students achieve their dreams. These education schemes support the deserving students financially, based on criteria such as academic performance, income, and sometimes community or nationality. So, when should a student apply for a scholarship? The simple answer is before the deadline and as early as possible. But is that all one should know? Not really! Here are a few more points one should be aware of if they wish to apply for scholarships in or after school. 1. Check the suitable scholarships There are numerous scholarships for school students and undergraduates. However, the applicant needs to check the scholarships that suit their needs, subject, and other relevant qualifications. For example, the Global Indian International School, Bengaluru offers the Global Citizen Scholarship (GCS) to deserving students in India. Besides, students from ASEAN countries, South Asia (India /Sri Lanka /Bangladesh), European Union, and Gulf countries who want to study in India may also apply. As evident, the scholarship has a significantly inclusive acceptance policy in terms of nationalities. However, it is open for Grade 10 students only, and the percentage of a fee waiver is subject to change according to the marks obtained in board exams. 2. Eligibility Criteria and other requirements Eligibility criteria differ from one scholarship to another. It comprises the minimum qualification required, marks, other performance indicators, affirmative actions based on financial condition, caste, race, or disabilities. Clarity on this factor also helps you understand whether the scholarship is awarded to students of a particular institution or carries a national,

For example, a school student in, say Bengaluru, has the following options to avail of a scholarship. ●S(he) may look for scholarships offered by the school ●S(he) may apply for student support schemes provided by the state or the national government. ●S(he) may take admission to a Bengaluru school that offers scholarships. ●S(he) may apply for global scholarships, provided that the school duly implements such schemes. In addition, students should also check whether the duration-based validity of scholarships. Some scholarships are applicable only for full-time courses, while others may include part-time and distance courses too. 3.Deadline Do not wait till the eleventh hour to apply for a scholarship. Once you have decided on a few, mark the last dates for application. Check the documents required and prepare a scanned copy/physical copy (or both if required) well in advance. Fill in all the details carefully and accurately as a single oversight may sometimes lead to rejection of your application. You may need to write an application cover letter. List your educational and professional achievements, aims, goals, and career plans, and what makes you suitable for the scholarship. Also, mention how you would contribute to the betterment of your area of study and your institution. Your cover letter is like a snapshot of your professional and academic accomplishments and the path ahead.
