COURSE SYNOPSIS COURSE NAME :ISLAMIC INSTITUTIONS COURSE CODE :UHR2012 UNIT :2 CREDITS (2 hours x 14 Week = 28 hours) The course is designed to introduce the main characteristics in Islamic systems which cover social, educational, legislative, political, judicial and economic institution. It also highlights the Islamic principles in institutional management. This is achieved by involving students in simulation and project activities. Therefore students should be able to apply Islamic principles in managing organization accordingly and effectively

COURSE OBJECTIVES At the end of the course, students should be able to: • Identify main characteristics in Islamic systems • Explain Islamic principles in management • Apply their knowledge of the principles of Islamic systems and their characteristics through project and test • Evaluate the application of Islamic system in organisation

  24. PROJECT (20%) Students should go for project because: 1. Provide true experience about organizational management 2. Better understand the theory from UHR 2012 with the current practices 3. Develop confidence to communicate with outsiders 4. Develop leadership skills in soft skills 5. Enjoyable and fun activities

  25. 2. Tasks to do: 1. Form a group consists of 5 members 2. Get an approval letter to do the project from PBMSK administrative office 3. Identify group structure (Job distribution) 4. Brainstorm to select the organization for project (related to engineering field) 5. Select the organization (Choose the best one) 6. Do background literature of the organization • Write project proposal (Introduction / objective / group structure / tasks distribution / project milestone / organization background. Submit on week 3) Submit before / in week 3 8. Contact the organization to do the project (Strategy to get cooperation from top management of the organization) 9. Show the approval letter of the project from PBMSK to the organization

Get approval from lecturer for the proposed interview questions 12. Send the interview questions before going for interview (Lets the organization prepare the document before interview session) 13. Data collection (Set the appointment. Please make stand on promises) 14. Data analysis (Rewrite the point from interview. Analyze on the adequacy of the contents) 15. Draft the report (If the point is not enough, contact the informant again to gain the information) 16. Send draft of the report to the lecturer (To get feedback and recommendations) 17. Correct / Improve project report (Use standard formatting on academic report writing) 18. Submit the final report (Date line: Week 12) Final Report Submission in week 12

  27. 3. How to choose the organization 1. Each group work with different company / organization. No group combine for one organization. 2. Check redundancy with lecturer / other group members 3. Select medium size industry around Kuantan (Enterprise company is too small) Usually multinational / national company difficult to give detail information. If students have friends / relatives in the company, it’s an advantage to the project) 4. If possible, the organization is a good organization / perform well in business / give good product/services to the customer 5. Make sure top management / manager want to cooperate in completing the interview and giving their information

  28. 4. Important information to get during data collection 1. Organizational background (History, Objective, Vision , Mission) 2. Organizational structure (Management structure / business structure) 3. Business / Organizational activities (Explain in detail about organizational activities) 4. Financial management (Total revenue, Net revenue, Assets: If possible) 5. Relationship of the organization to engineering / engineer 6. Business / Organizational strategies (To improve effectiveness / increase revenue) 7. Supporting brochure / materials about the organization 8. Contribution of the organization to the community 9. Uses of Islamic management tools in the organization

  29. Others about project (20%) 5. How to analyze the project with the concepts in Islamic Institutions 1. Understand the process / activities of the organization 2. Lists out activities similar / related with Islamic management principles 3. Explain the similarities with example 4. Lists out activities contradict with Islamic management principles 5. Explain the contra with example 6. Write the analysis in your project report 6. Project proposal 1. Every proposal must be submitted and approved by lecturer 2. Fill in the form (From CMLHS office – Week 2-3) to get official letter from CMLHS. The letter will help the students to gain cooperation from the organization.

Understand in detail concept and process of the selected organizational management tool • III. Competent in using the selected tool in managing the organization

WORKSHOP • Mathurat Tool (Muslim) • Buy / get a copy of Mathurat Kubra • Start to read the mathurat from week 2 (Marks given based on Wazifah Kubra not Wazifah Surgha) • Read the verses daily to have a smooth reading • Cross check with friends to ensure the reading is good • Prepare / set an appointment with lecturer • Mathurat reading start from week 5 • Read it in front lecturer on the appointment date / time • Only smooth reader can get full marks

WORKSHOP Selected management tool in the organization • Find notes on tools in managing organization (ISO, 5S, Kaizen, BSC, TQO, etc from books/internet) • Try to get notes from 3 sources (Minimum) • Read the notes • Make your own notes from the reading materials (Hand written / typed) • Bind your reading materials with your own notes • Prepare / set an appointment with lecturer • Organizational tool discussion start from week 5 • Elaborate and discuss understanding with lecturer • Only well prepared students can get full marks
