Cheer methodology • Vertically Aligned Program 7th grade – Varsity • Support/Promote/Define Spirit Leader and Athleticism of cheerleading • Provide district support to the campus for expectations, behavior, discipline, grading policy, attendance, etc. • Provide structure for middle school “mock audition” and placement to skills-based squads. • Provide structure for high school cheer tryouts

Squad Determination • Girls will be re-evaluated individually during the 2014-2015 school year for squad placement when appropriate in the academic year or athletic season. • Natural break occurred this year during tryouts – current evaluation remains for the school year until otherwise determined. Safety is the major reason for existing break. • Ability levels and expectations will increase next year for cheer tryouts – especially at the LHS tryout level. The goal is to give our cheerleaders preparation for tryouts, so that they know what to expect, as well as growing and improving the program to better support the individual growth of each cheerleader and program expectations overall.

  6. Requirements • Must be in 7th or 8th grade for the 2013-2014 school year. • . Cheerleader is responsible for purchasing required items. • All cheerleaders must have a physical turned in to the sponsors or WSMS front office before camp in June • Cheerleaders must maintain an average of a 70 to be eligible to participate. • Commitment for the entire school year – One absence permitted per season – games are exam grades.

Uniforms • Required uniforms will be purchased through Varsity Spirit. • The required items are: shell (top) + lettering and skirt pair of briefs 1 midriff turtle neck Socks Shoes 1 set of pompoms 1 bow Warm up top and bottom (to wear under uniform at school) 3 standard t-shirts (camp wear and practice wear) 3 pairs of shorts (camp wear and practice wear) 1 cheer bag + lettering - Optional Cheerleader/parent long sleeved T ($35)

  8. Upcoming Dates • Cheer fitting March 27 WSMS and deposits due ($315.00 7th grade and $305.50 new 8th grade cheerleader and $238.00 for returning – these are half of the total); cheer constitution agreement due – notarized form in packet previously given • Payment Due Final Due April 15 4:15 p.m. • Physicals May 10 at WSMS $20 • Camp June 9-11 (Physicals and treatment forms are due if not completed on May 10)

Uniform Cost and Payment Estimated cost for uniforms- (8th) shell & skirt $113.00 (have under armor, boy shorts and other items) (7th) shell & skirt $132.00 Estimated Varsity total- (8th) $442.00 (7th) $461.00 *Deposit due by March 27 with final due by April 15. – camp payment also due April 15.

  10. Uniforms continued • Uniform fitting is March 27th beginning at 4:15 pm (8th graders), 6:00 pm (7th graders). Uniforms must be paid for, in full by 4pm on April 15th. • Cheerleading uniforms are non-refundable and customized items are not returnable. • Returning cheerleaders MUSTbring/wear their full uniforms to fitting for sizing approval.

  11. Willow Springs Cheerleading Uniform 8thgrade uniforms will be red and same uniform as currently own 7thgrade uniform will be black (see picture). Fabric is flexible and breathable for better wear and performance* 7th grade example, but with V-neck instead

  14. Physicals Students are required to have a physical on file before participating in cheerleading camp. • You may use your personal physician. Please use the LISD Physical Forms are provided for you this evening. See packet • LISD will be holding their first mass sport physical examination held May 10 for $20. We also have physical forms available.

  15. Cheerleading Camp Camp is mandatory. Cost: $169.00 Fee is due with your cheer forms by April 15th to the front office. Please place in an envelope with your cheerleader’s name on the front. Checks made payable to WSMS; please write cheer camp in notes section (you may write one check for both the camp fee AND the uniform.) Location: WSMS Main Gym, pack lunch and water Date: (Monday-Wednesday) June 9th-11th, 2014 Time: Day 1 - 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Day 2/3 - 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

  16. To Remain Eligible, Students Must: • Cheerleaders must fulfill all cheerleading obligations throughout the school year. Members of the cheerleading squad are expected to make a commitment to the activity for the full school year. • Cheerleaders must be self-motivated and willing to participate in activities with a good attitude. • Cheerleaders must be responsible for themselves, their actions, and their cheerleading uniforms and equipment.

  17. Maintain Eligibility continued • The cheerleaders are to attend all games, practices, as required by the sponsor(s). One excused absence per season. Outside extra curricular activities not school related are unexcused. Cheerleaders will be expected to make up missed major grades (performances) with a cheer essay, choreographed dance/ cheer, or other cheer-related assignment assigned by the sponsor. • There must be successful communication between squad members and sponsor to promote harmony and success for all parties. Facebook, Instagram or Twitter posts about squad, squad members, or squad business are not allowed. • Grades In order to be eligible for any nine-week period following the initial nine-week period of the school year, a student shall not have a recorded grade average lower than a 70, on a scale of 0-100, in any course for the preceding three-week period.

Nicole Sanders(469)742-8500 Nicole_Sanders@lovejoyisd.net School cheerleader for seven years, and dancer 14 years, training under the choreographer and director of the musical TEXAS! in Palo Duro Canyon in Amarillo. Mother of former Lovejoy middle school through Varsity Cheerleader and a rising seventh grade WSMS cheerleader. Also served on the executive board for LHS spirit/cheer club two years.
