Youre familiar with the wonderful classroom lessons offered by Snohomish County Public Utility District Its flattering to be confused with the PUD, but Im with a totally different organization: Snohomish County Government Our names are very similar but we are two distinct and separate organizations

    3. Snohomish County Government (Social Studies-Civics GLE 1.2.1 Understands the purposes, organization, and function of governments, laws, and political systems) The County Government is where youll find: Elected officials such as the: Assessor Auditor Clerk Prosecuting Attorney Sheriff Treasurer County Executive 5 County Council Members Departments with appointed Directors: Planning & Development Services Dept (permits) Public Works Department (SWM is a division within PW)

    4. The head of the Executive Branch This is an elected position its the local equivalent of the President of the United States County Executive Aaron Reardon

    5. The Legislative Branch These are elected positions they are the local equivalent of the US Senate & US House of Representatives We have a five-person County Council

    6. The Legislative Branch (elected positions) Each represents a different geographic area

    7. Your County Government is located next to the Everett Events Center

    9. SWMs Mission (we deal with the natural water systems) Work in partnership with citizens of Snohomish County to protect and enhance water quality and aquatic habitats, to minimize damage from flooding and erosion, and to preserve a water resource legacy for future generations In other words we deal with the 3Qs Quality Quantity (river flooding & urban drainage) Quatic Habitat

    10. Why & how the County can offer SWMs Education Services We have to limit serves to our rate-payers, the people who live in unincorporated Snohomish County. (If you live within a city you probably pay a surface water management fee to your city (not the county)). In addition to reaching students, SWM is very interested in meeting the PARENTS of your students.

    11. SWMs Services for Educators Workshops & Classes for any educator In the 2009-10 school year SWM will be able to fund about 12 Wheels to Water field trips www.education.surfacewater.info If at least 25% of your students live in unincorporated Snohomish County we offer free classroom lessons.
