  1. Maruti Suzuki plans to phase out diesel cars May 28, 2019 Why Maruti Suzuki plans to phase out diesel cars Maruti Suzuki has been the biggest newsmaker lately, owing to its announcement on phasing out diesel cars from April 2020. When news of Maruti Suzuki’s decision came to phase out all its diesel models by April 2020, this was initially met with a sense of disbelief. Why, asked many, would India’s largest carmaker step out of the market segment that is so important? It’s not just India – diesel cars are steadily falling out of favor globally, too. The automotive industry globally is moving away from diesel and focusing on cleaner technologies. Indian market cannot remain insular to global trends. Maruti Suzuki showrooms will now focus more on fuel e?cient petrol, hybrid and CNG vehicles. This outcome should be welcomed for the positive impact it will have on air quality and public health. There is an anti-diesel sentiment in play today, because diesel is considered as a higher-polluting fuel. Diesel cars have recently become a subject of a lot of public negativity because of the amount of toxic emissions they produce. For most cars built over the past 20 years petrol is likely to be less polluting overall than diesel. Human health is continuously being damaged by diesel emissions. Replacing petrol cars with diesel ones will result in lower CO₂ emissions and climate impacts. The car industry cannot ignore this power of public awareness. Moreover, diesel particulate matter which is rich in black carbon, is also a climate rouge as it is several times more heat trapping than CO2. Also due to the high cost of upgrading diesel vehicles to BS-VI standards will make sense for Maruti Suzuki to move away from diesel. Maruti’s announcement is a shadow of things to come in future. With more consumer awareness, diesel cars will no longer be the ‘cool’ thing to buy. Moreover, Diesel exhaust has been classi?ed as a potential human carcinogen and exposure to high levels of diesel exhaust show a greater risk of lung cancer. Diesel engines pose a health hazard because they produce higher levels of particulates, microscopic bits of soot left over from the combustion process. These ultra-?ne particles penetrate deep into the lungs, causing irritation and potentially triggering asthma attacks. The diesel engine also produces nitrogen oxides. Long term exposure to nitrogen dioxide, in particular, can decrease lung function, increase the risk of respiratory conditions and increase allergic reactions. While diesel cars may travel further on a litre of fuel but they emit signi?cantly higher levels of other air pollutants, especially nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulates. When it comes to CO2 emissions and other toxic pollutants produced over the lifetime of a diesel car is more damaging to the environment than a petrol version. If you are in search of a petrol car which is a perfect blend of styling, engine, safety, best in interior features and most importantly environment friendly, you will ?nd your match in Ambal Auto, one of the leading dealer of Maruti Suzuki in Coimbatore. Ambal Auto is also one of the largest dealers for Maruti Suzuki cars in Tamilnadu.
