Summary • When you read nonfiction texts, try to be … THIEVES • T: Title • Activate prior knowledge • Make predictions to then content • S: Summary • Get the most important points • V: Visual and vocabulary • Look for photos, drawings, maps, charts, graphs… • E: End of chapter questions • Get an idea on what information to look for • E: Every first sentence in a paragraph • Get some clues about the topic of each paragraph • H: Headings • Get some general information about the text • I: Introduction • Read the first paragraph • Look for repeated/ key/italicized words
