  2. Towards 2018 Vision To stage a great Games in a great city leaving great memories and great benefits for all. Mission To conduct an athlete focussed Games with excellent competition in a fun and friendly environment with long lasting benefits for the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia and the Commonwealth.

Towards 2018 Objectives • To attract the best athletes to compete in a technically excellent, world class, fun and friendly Commonwealth Games. • To launch the Commonwealth Games into a new decade with an inspiring, memorable and landmark event. • To help our partners make the most of the opportunities presented by the Commonwealth Games.

Scope and Scale A simple overview of the size and scale of the Commonwealth Games based on previous Games data: • 6,500 athletes and team officials • 17 Sports – fully inclusive programme • 15 Para sport events • 17 Competition venues • 30 Training venues • 250 medals • Over 1,000 technical officials

Scope and Scale • >500 TV cameras • >1,000 hours of live broadcast coverage • >1.5 billion global TV audience • >100,000 media stories • >3,000 journalists/photographers • >50 sponsors and official providers • >4 million public transport trips (in addition to normal passenger numbers) • >86 million website page views

  9. Scope and Scale • GOLDOC currently employs 22 staff. • By 2018 GOLDOC will employ around 1000 staff • More than 30,000 contractors will work in venues and operations during ‘Games time’ • 15,000 volunteers

Impact • Estimated economic benefit $2billion • There will be in excess of $500m spent on sport and transport infrastructure – GC2018 will fast track many initiatives • The tourism, construction and events industries are diverse and labour intensive. To meet the demand there will be employment and skill development, work experience and learning opportunities • Estimated 30,000 full time equivalent jobs

Gold Coast Aquatic Centre • State Government and Gold Coast City Council joint agreement to accelerate aquatic centre redevelopment • Completed in time for Pan Pacific Swimming Championships - August 2014 • Project management administered by Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning • 16 month construction timeframe. Commencing February 2013 • Employment: 350 full time equivalent

  17. Carrara Master Plan Gold Coast City Council in process of developing a master plan for the Carrara Precinct, identified as a major elite and community sport and recreation hub. Master plan will identify: • Carrara Sport and Leisure Centre • Gold Coast Sports Arena • Track and Field Warm up and facilities • Permanent community infrastructure • Parking • Amenities and ancillary infrastructure • Flood mitigation design and infrastructure • Final master plan report due March 2013
