Occupational Poisonings • New staff: Amanda Tran (MPH in 2012) • Phase 1: Analysis & summary of Colorado NPDS data • Phase II: Evaluate lead (Pb) cases • Characterize occupation data in text field • Linkage with CDPHE lead surveillance • Phase III: • Feedback/training for RMPDC call center staff • Evaluate other sources of poisoning data (WC, hospital admissions and ER visits)

  8. BLS, Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) • Currently in Vital Statistics Section • Moving to our program in 2012 • <$30K annually, One part-time staff • Fatalities validated by two sources: • Death certificate • WC claims • OSHA reports • Other (i.e. Media, SSDI, NVDRS, FARS)

Lead (Pb) Surveillance & Rule Making • Coordinating ABLES/EPHT reporting • 2009: Exposed workers in Colorado • Source: BLS Occupational Employment Statistics • Estimated 65,300 (VT methods) to 99,500 (Haz-Map.com) workers • 2009: Surveillance data • 808 persons: 55 =10-24 ug/dL ; 24 ≥ 25 ug/dL • Proposal to BOH to require reporting of adult lead tests ≥ 10 ug/dL • Outreach to labs/employers regarding testing

Capacity Building Efforts • MAP ERC Pilot Project • Not funded • Proposal to evaluate poisoning experiences among pesticide applicators • May still collaborate with Dept of Ag/CSU • CSTE Fellow Application (2 yrs, 2012-14) • Occupational health disparities • Develop training curriculum for refugees • Apply for OSHA Susan Hardwood training grant
